Ok, So I guess I'm sort of ranting and sort of asking for advice here..

Ok so I have a very common last name.. Most of the time in every class, there is some1 with my last name. In fact for the last semester and this semester, there has been somebody with the SAME name (first and last) as me in most of my classes. This person is also a freshmen. On repeated accounts professors have confused my grades for his, and obviously if a higher grade shows up on somebody's grade report online they won't go to the professor to get it changed. Every time my grade gets mixed up, I have to go to the professors and have my grade changed; The TFs won't do it because they don't have student ID numbers and are not sure I'm the right person. I don't mind going to fix the grades, although it does suck, but I'm afraid that the professors will mix these grades up on the transcript... Recently this just happened where my final grade on the transcript showed up as an A- instead of an A. I've e-mailed the professor and I havnt gotten a response in a week now. I just don't know what to do. I KNOW I got an A because I have all my graded assignments and I only lost 2 points the entire semester out of a total of 100 points on the grading scale. I missed a point on a homework assignment and then lost one on a quiz.

So, my question is.. IS there anything I can do.. My grades have been mixed up in 3 out of 4 of my classes this semester, and 2 out of 4 of my classes last semester. I think that if I pay tuiton here the least they can do is give me the grades I earned..

Also: the grade mix-up has happened more than once in every class...

Maybe the cut off for an A was only missing 1 pt. Yes there is definitely something you can do about it ... I'm sure. Email the professor and go to the registrars office and have them list your middle name on official schedules or something so it stops happening. Or find and destroy this evil, alternate you, who keeps stealing all your As.

No, I'm positive the cutoff for the A was more than one point. She said that there was no curve or scale at all in the class.. So what you get is what you get... Also, a friend who got a 95/100 possible points got an A. Class participation was not part of the grade [although I did participate more than most of my classmates...]

Actually I know who this other student is.. Not well, but I've talked to him once or twice. We both have the same middle names as well actually..... But I do write my University student ID number and even my EMAIL on every test...

I was just being an ass about the A thing, I'm sure you earned an A. That is unreal you guys have the same middle name too. I honestly wonder, statistically, how often that happens, and the probability in your graduating class size. Weird. Anyway, I'd go to the professor and ask to look at all your exams with your student ID card and your student ID number on the tests. Have him/her confirm the grade is wrong, and then have the professor actually go change it. Good luck.

I've had a professor record the wrong grade for me. He recorded one of my tests as a 43% instead of the 93% I received. Once I got in touch with him and he identified the problem, he just had to fill out a grade change form to correct the mistake.

If I was you (and if you have a middle name), I would ensure that my middle name was included as my official student name. Then I would make sure to label every test/assignment with both my middle name and student id#. If they can't keep your grades straight after doing this, I'm affraid your professors and/or TAs are incompetent!

Yes, change your name from Jimmy Smith to Manuel Antonio Noriega. As long as you don't plan on going to Mschool in Panama this should solve your problem.

I don't think I've EVER had to take a test in college where I didn't have to put my id number on it. This would end all confusion.

Yeah everywhere I've been in a class of more than 10 people, ID numbers were required on the test.

Maybe start using your middle name on everything as well?

I would not worry OP, I have had my final grade changed a month after it was posted (my teacher can't add correctly). If you can't get in contact him via email, try calling his office or stopping by in person. I would expect he would have to fill out some form or something like that (that is what my professor had to do).
