Hey wutsup guys, I'm currently a junior and I'm slightly confused with how I should approach the grade replacements. I have decided that I am going to apply next cycle- next june right after I graduate. I do want to retake some pre-requisites. I only want to retake 2-3 classes because I got C+'s in them and they were grades that I got freshman year *insert dumb freshman excuse here* 🙁 The problem is, I can only retake these classes after graduation because this summer I will be studying for the MCAT very rigorously and I prefer not to have any distractions in this process. So what should my plan of action be? I also have another question: during that gap year, how would I notify them that I will be taking prereqs and whatever EC's or traveling I would do during that year? I guess I am worried because I don't even know how I would update the adcoms my grades that I recieve in these classes because I still want to apply in time. By taking summer classes, I can still have time to do more activities afterwards.

My friends and the search function were informing me how I could "update" my application electronically but I'm worried that this would mean the application is not complete. Could someone clarify this information for me?

Oh by the way --> I have done shadowing, research, and work for the school and hospital, while being a TA so it's not like I really need the gap year for extracurriculars. Although, I do want to do some medical missions in the Philippines after my projected completion of the summer courses.

Just to recap:

Essentially, I want to apply senior year and retake classes after graduation and I want to know if this is possible. Does a gap year really man a gap year to completely improve my resume and myself as much as possible? & if so, how would I inform the adcoms of my future plans.

Please don't tear me up for anybody whose gonna flame me for not using the search function properly because I did. I really would like some help and clarification! Thank you so much!

I retook 1-2 classes after I graduated and it wasn't a problem. In fact, when I updated my AACOMAS application (by having the school I was retaking my courses in send an updated transcript with my new grade), I ended up getting a call for an interview. So it's possible.

What you basically do is you complete the AACOMAS application, with the planned/in progress courses listed in there. Also you need to make sure that the courses you took freshman year and the retakes are labeled as RNY, meaning you are in the process of retaking them. Then the second your grades get posted on your transcript, send them right away to AACOMAS, and they will fill in the grades and it will be submitted to all the schools within a week as an updated application.

This will not delay the process, as the schools will see the first application, and then they will be automatically updated with the new one. Also, be sure to check that AACOMAS processed your update properly, as mistakes do happen, and you might want to update some schools by email just to make sure they got it, but most/all get it automatically within a week.

Also, as far as updates for activities go, you can send schools those updates by email when you are put on hold, waitlist, haven't heard anything from them, or even just as a monthly thing to show your continued interest.

Oh okay so I'll label any classes that I am retaking as RNY and take them over the summer. I'll still be able to timely apply that cycle due to the fact these will be application "updates" considering all my other requirements are turned in correct? Since summer is broken up into sessions 1 and sessions 2 maybe the latest I'll recieve all the grades is maybe August 20th which by how described will be implemented into my application August 30th. Is this okay? and will this be timely enough?

Also, small question, if I wanted to retake orgo over the summer and I took orgo 1 for 4 credits the 1st time and tried to take orgo 1 for 5 credits, this wouldn't work because of the fact how the titles must be the same and the credit hours must be the same. Correct?

Apply day 1 with your current stats, and as long as the prereqs are complete your app will be complete. I'd only recommend applying later if you are below the cutoffs of most schools (i.e. one of your GPAs is below a 3.0), but even then I'd still recommend submitting to one school with a lower cutoff (e.g. LECOM, ATSU, PCOM, etc), then just wait for the update before completing the secondaries. If you are above the cutoff, apply right away and there will not be a delay. Then when you get the grades, update the application and schools will see the new grades. The end of August is fine for an update. Many people update in January.

As far as Orgo goes, as long as the material is the same and the credits of the latest retake is equal to or greater than the previous courses, it can apply as a retake. So in your case, as long as its still Orgo 1 and since it has 5 credits (5 being greater than the 4 credits from the previous course) it can be labeled as a retake.

Ok so just finished my spring semester and got all As except for this one lame ecology class. I plan to retake it.. I have another set of questions. Does the retaken class have to be the same exact name as I had taken in my undergrad institution? It is called ecology but If I were to take it at my CC, there are various names (general, principles of, ecology and field studies) all corresponding to 4credits. Comparing syllabi, the content is the same, would these be valid classes to serve as a retake?

Just to refresh the post, I plan on applying next year my senior year. Which would mean I would fill out the aaomcas and amcas apps and submit them in June. This gives ample time for my spring grades to be submitted with my primary application. Now my question is, I understand you told me "many people update in January" does that mean, I technically have the whole summer and fall semester of next year to satisfy my retakes? Grades should be submitted by then.

I'm just trying to create a timeline here. I want to retake 3-4 classes at a CC and I am wondering if I would have to cram them into that summer or I can evenly distribute it throughout summer and fall.
I guess a more general question would be: how long do I have to complete retakes while still applying within the same year cycle?

It's a three year old dead thread I doubt you're gonna get a response.

Your probably right. Figured they might still get the notification so it can't hurt
