Hey all,

I am posting on behalf of my gf's little sister who will be applying in a couple of years. She had a little bit of a rough start to undergrad, and completely failed gen chem and had right around a 2.0 for her first semester. She has since rebounded a fair amount, and is sitting at about a 3.2 prior to her second semester of sophomore year.

She is definitely on an upward trend, and she has replaced her original F gen chem grade with either a B+ or an A-. However, it will probably be most advantageous for her to focus on schools that focus on more recent grades and/or allow for grade forgiveness. Any info that people could provide would be amazing, thank you!

I know Kansas State University only looks at the new grade and they do ask what your gpa is for your most recent 45 credits

Michigan State is pretty heavy on the last 45 and doesn't look at cGPA at all. Can't recall what they do with repeated courses though.

ISU requires a minimum cum GPA of 2.5, but doesn't actually use it in the admissions formula -- only last 45 hours and science.

LSU, though they take very little OOS students. I believe Mississippi State weighs these things heavily as well, OOS competition is a little less stuff, and you only need 2.8 cumulative to apply. I had a rough start myself. Tell her he biggest thing is to not beat herself up. That's the quickest way to burn out 🙂

It looks like her GPA is going in the right direction and presenting an upward trend. A lot of vet schools look towards that. They seem to expect that some students are going to have more difficult time than others transitioning to college from high school. Make sure to do your research on individual schools as they post this information.
