Before creating this post, I made sure to utilize the search function but was only able to find answers to parts of my question. From my understanding, grade replacement works if the following conditions are met:

-Units match (equal or greater than)
-Course description is a direct hit
-Course levels match

While its obvious that course levels have to match (upper division for upper division, 300 for 300, 100 for 100 etc), i understand that its more important that course descriptions are a direct hit mainly because different schools use different numbering systems. (At my old school, lower division courses were single or double digit, ex BIO 4 and upper division courses were in the 100's, ex Immunology BIO 130).

I want to retake several courses at my community college, specifically molecular biology and organic chemistry but unfortunately the community college uses a lower division numbering system Ex. OCHEM 50 VS OCHEM 100 at my old school.

If the course descriptions match (im 100% sure the ochem at my community college ISN'T a principles of ochem class), would i be able to take it at a community college to save money and use it as a grade replacement? I already called AACOMAS and they were unable to give me an answer. Also, the reason why I believe the OCHEM grade replacement should work is because the retake is worth 5 semester units (7.5 quarter) and the old class is only worth 2.67 semester units (4 quarter units). MY main issue is that they're on different numbering systems and my community college does not offer "upper division courses"

any assistance is greatly appreciated. thank you

Doesn't matter if the course numbering is different. OChem is always a lower division course, that's why they are offered at CC. Molecular Biology I think is starting to be offered at CC's and should match up with University courses. Biochem will not. That is upper division and is not offered at CC (at least where I'm from).

I am in the same predicament. Ochem at my university is a 3000 level course. At the CC it's a 2000 level course. I could save myself about $900 taking it at the CC

Course numbers don't matter. Universities use different systems.

Course content and credit units. That's what you look at.

The course could be called Ochem1 or Ochem1-billion. As long as they match via course description (I would look for a core concept syllabus for the semester) and credit-hours, you're golden. Just be sure you can explain why you took the classes at a CC and not a University (money, proximity, etc....) if asked in an interview or prompted to do so in a secondary.

Best of luck

Course number does not matter
