Hello, I just wanted to confirm on here if these grade replacements would work under AACOMAS. I am planning on taking Physics I and Orgo I over, but plan to take them again at a different school. The only concern is that when I originally took Physics I, it was a 4 credit course, while my retake will have 3 credits for lecture and 1 credit for lab. Will this still be able to replace my old grade? Also, for Orgo I both schools follow the 3 credit lecture, 1 credit lab format and I wish to just take the lecture portion. This should be fine, right?

Yes.

You might want to call AACOMAS about that one.

Your Orgo should be fine.

Here is what happened to me this year on my AACOMAS application:

I took Physics 1 and 2 as an undergrad. In undergrad, the lecture and lab were separate courses, lec=3 credits, lab=1 credit.

I ended up repeating Physics 1 and 2 in my post bac work at a community college many years later. Here the lecture and lab were combined into one 4 credit course.

Okay, in my undergrad Physics 1 class I received a B in both lecture and lab. AACOMAS replaced those grades with the A I received in my 4 credit post-bac course.

For my undergrad Physics 2 class I received a C in lecture and an A in lab. I have an A in the 4 credit Physics 2 post bac class. AACOMAS did not replace my original physics 2 grade. They just left it on there.

I contacted AACOMAS about this thinking it was an error but they said they can't replace the undergrad Physics 2 because I had two different grades in lecture and lab!

It really doesn't make sense to me and seems rather arbitrary. 😕 So, it appears that if you receive two different grades for courses split into lecture and lab they won't replace the grade.

Ok, how about this scenario? (please dont judge me)

At MD, they changed Cell Bio from BSCI230 to BSCI330. I took BSCI230 got a D, and then took BSCI330 (which is same as BSCI230) and got a F. If, by the will of all the Gods combined, I retake BSCI330 and get anything -- will it replace both of those grades for DO application purposes?

I'm not sure if it's 1 for 1 or if it's the best grade stands, but you do need to figure out why that happened, a) to get a better grade the third time (which really should be an A), b) put together a thought out explanation that doesn't sound like you're placing the blame on anyone else, and c) be ready to explain that come interview time, because in my experience, they will ask about any easily to identify mar on your academic record (if it's an open file interview). Assuming everything else is okay, I don't see this keeping you out, but it will if you start to stutter and bumble in the interview about how it was because the professor was this or that, etc., it could. Cell bio is an important class to understand for med school.

Good luck with the class the next time. 😉

I'm wondering how the grade replacement works if you haven't taken the course yet but you plan to?

For example, in my first year biology course I got a C+ and since I've gotten B+s or As, so I really want that C+ gone. But I won't be able to take it again until the summer and i'm applying now. So do I say repeat course or whatever now, or just keep it the way it is (saying C+ and no notification)? The ONE grade brings down my sGPA by like .3 (from 3.7 to 3.44) so I really want to do all that's possible to better it. 🙂

Okay, I'm rather confused as to how it works then. I just took a 3-credit lecture for Orgo I during undergrad, but now I am retaking Orgo I with combined 4-credit lecture and lab. Does that mean my four credit class is not going to replace by 3-credit lecture component?

I know this is an 11 month old bump but I wanted to let future DO applicants that AACOMAS is relatively fair on the grade replacements. I was concerned based upon the student in this thread who had problems with his Physics replacement-- sounds like he/she got shafted.

At Cornell, the Bio sequence was 2 lecture, 2 lab per semester. I did poorly, retook for two 4 credit courses for the sequence and they replaced the grades.

I know this is extremely old but the same thing happened to me. Since i received a b in lecture and an A in lab accomas won't accept my repeat. Did you find a solution to this

You did not read Cornell08's post correctly. He/she was able to resolve their issue by having AACOMAS replace the separate lecture and lab courses with a retake, hence why they mentioned that the PREVIOUS POSTER may have been shafted.

What is your situation, and did AACOMAS not replace your grades?

Hey guys, great thread!

I'm thinking of retaking general chemistry II at Oregon State Online or another reputable university such as penn state worldwide, uic online, etc - I was wondering if AACOMAS will take the class as a grade replacement...

Thanks!
