I think its somewhat useful in the sense that its better than a downward trend. They just put more weight on your sophmore and junior years than your freshman year. Someone with a stable trend but has better grades will still be preferred though.
Agree with the other post. If you struggled and got out of it, it's reassuring and shows maturity and the ability to change habits in order to succeed.
Significance wise? Probably not that significant since probably one in every five students goes through this type of trend. But it's good you have it!
