Hello. I'm planning on applying for pharmacy school after graduating from undergrad with a BS in bio, and I was wondering...who here has gotten into pharm school with less-than-steller grades? I ask this because at this point, my grades are VERY mediocre (2.5ish...) which is primarily one of the reasons why I want to earn my undergrad degree first (backup and time to bring up my grades). I'm in the middle of my second year, btw. My grades are REALLY starting to worry me.

well i'd say a 3.0 is almost an absolute minimum to get in...some places won't even interview less than a 3.0 i believe. however, you should apply no matter what...who's to say what could happen! that being said, you have time to get up to the 3.0-3.4 range with real hard work. remember the application comittees should consider trends in gpa as well (as well as an undergraduate degree). treat your coursework like a job and muscle through. good luck! 👍

I have actually heard that pharmacy schools are trying to weed out the kids with only 2 year degrees- they want student's with a BS. I had a 3.5 undergrad (BS in nutrition w/honors), 3.3 grad (MS in nutrition) and 98 (out of 100) on the PCAT (composite score). I was accepted to the only school I applied to back in October (my interview was in september). I know pharmacy school is pretty competitive to get into. I would work on getting your gpa up to a 3.3-3.5- take more science courses, do research, as well as extracurricular activites. Sorry if my advice did not make you feel better.

If you're in the middle of your 2nd year (out of 4) with a 2.5 then you have a lot of time to pull that up! don't worry show improvement

I had a similar GPA during my first year and a half (personal problems), so you are not the only one who has been in this situation! You just need to start working hard right away to pull it up past a 3.0.. remember to aim high! Also, I found that I had to make quite a few sacrifices (e.g. social life) at times and so be prepared to do so - if you really want to go into pharmacy then it won't matter! The sooner you pull it up the better, because once you get to your fourth year your GPA doesn't move up or down much (e.g. I got 4 A's and a B last fall of my senior year and my GPA only went up 0.09 points!!! 😡 ). Good luck! Also, there are other things that admissions look at - for instance, start working in a pharmacy now because it will show that you have had a committed interest in the field.

Like the others have said - a lot of places won't offer an interview unless you are over a 3.0. I don't know what the stats are on admissions for less than stellar grades though - I was in my school's guaranteed pharm program (lucked out). When it comes time for admissions though apply to a range of schools, because some are easier to get in than others.

good lucks! 🙂

I have actually been told the opposite, that Pharm Schools don't care about your degree but instead look at your course work. I think that this is relative to the school/area though...
