I graduated from a top 30 last year and I'm currently at a loss of what to do.

I just recently took the MCAT again and am waiting for my score. Thing is, I'm currently doing some volunteer research and not sure if I should try and do a summer program (got rejected from a few) or try and get some research job positions in the mean time. I've been applying to local hospitals and health-care providers but theres very little you can do with a BS obviously.

My plan was to apply this summer but its kinda scary not having something directly able to do in the mean time.

Can you point me in a direction where I might be able to get my questions answered or what info you all would prefer I include to give me better advice?

Thanks

check out the job postings @ a local medical school. get a job working as a research associate.

well... that's what i did. it's not a bad gig.

I guess its not.

I guess i'm just asking for suggestions of what I should look into doing in the mean time. I have a ugpa of 2.95.

You should take more coursework and raise your GPA. Or, apply to SMP's.

Look over your entire application and try to find weak spots if you can. Then try to work on those areas.

You'd better get a job because it will be a long time, if ever, before you go to medical school. Medical schools hire scores of young grads as research assistants in both laboratory and clinical settings. Sometimes you can get a discount on evening classes at the affiliated university which brings us to the next point...

Given your gpa, you need to show that you have the smarts and the skills to make it medical school. You can do that with upper level post-bac courses in biology, biochem, etc, in a masters degree in biology or a subfield of bio, or in a special masters program which should be your last resort as it is expensive and has no marketability -- it is either a preliminary year leading to medical school or it is a total waste of time and money.

Obviously, you needed two goes at the MCAT to feel you'd given it your best shot. If your scores are not where they need to be, start thinking about alternate career plans... what is it that you like about medicine and what other careers have similar characteristics.
