This question is a bit of a toss up. A recent graduate has the added benefit of not being removed from academia for any extended period. For test taking and study purposes, this might be an advantage. However, while bumming around for advice, I've found that some consider older applicants (already graduated), who've spent some time in the real world, as more mature and more dedicated to their goals. This might be chalked up in the same positives column as having a relative(s) in the profession, and getting up front exposure and feeding off their experiences. I don't think it will make or break an acceptance, but something extra for them to chomp on when dissecting an applicant.
