Hey!
This is my first time posting on SDN so I hope I'm formatting this right! I'm a junior and graduating a year early this spring (3.94 gpa) with a degree in Biochemistry. I did my associates degree while I was in high school (3.9?).

major activities:
  • Paid Clinical: 215 hours as a patient sitter (worked in all hospital departments- ED, psych, ACU, MCU, covid)
  • Shadowing: 85 hours (pediatrician, allergist, orthopedic surgeon's clinic)
  • Presidential Scholarship Recipient (full ride)
  • Chemistry Research for Honors thesis (maybe 250ish?)
  • Waitress at Restaurant Currently (I do weddings and events!)- 1000s of hours
  • President of Student Honors Association for our honors college (we do volunteering events and food/blood drives)
  • President of Biochemistry Club (I've hosted talks and seminars)
  • Volunteer at mental disability habilitation center- 85 hours
  • volunteer at nursing home- 105 hours
  • volunteer at family assistance center- 50ish hours
  • volunteer at food pantry- 25 hours
  • field research in catching and dissecting mice- 125ish?
  • I trained as a phlebotomist but never had luck finding a job with it (60 hours)
I was planning on taking one gap year and applying this spring. But I'm having a hard time studying for the MCAT while in school and am considering taking two.

The big dilemma is that, if I took two gap years, I'm scared of wasting them. I work at a resutarant in my small city with no opportunities, but don't want to move and pay expensive rent in a big city with more opportunities.

1. Would it look bad to ADCOMS if I spent my gap years just working at the same restaurant to make money, continuing my volunteering, and studying for the mcat? I have more small plans like helping my dad flip a house he has.

2. What else is my application lacking?

THANK YOU GUYS!!!
I think you could study for the MCAT and continue working during one gap year
