I remember there was a site that told you the grading system of each school.

Does anyone remember the link?
If not, does anyone know if OSU is PF? What about OHSU? Tufts? Loyola? UPitt?

thanks

Sorry I don't mean to derail your thread.

I thought it was ironic that a poster who has misspelled part of his username would choose to make fun of your typo.

The rocks in a glass house thing refers to the phrase 'people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.'

Please someone answer this lady's question. 🙂

ahh, i didn;t see his/her name.

Yes, it would be wonderful if someone could actually answer my question.

I swear, I saw the site posted on the pre-allo forum quite some time ago. I can't find the thread though.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mock her. I think if you can't laugh at yourself then you're a dangerous person! I totally laugh at my misspelling of my own name, that's why I didn't change it. Poor typists of the world unite! 😛

OSU is pass/fail, top 20% letters of commendation, top 10% honors. NON RANKING school. You ARE actually ranked to see if you get in the top 10 or 20%, but no numbers are ever released to anyone, even the students. This is supposed to help team work, and make things less competative, and i think it works to some extent. You'll always get gunners, but thats a good thing too. Its nice though, you can barely pass a certain block, and it won't ruin your chances at all, hehe. Good luck

Pitt's Honors/Pass/Fail from what I remember with Honors being awarded to approximately the 15% of the class who score a standard deviation above the mean for all the exams in a certain course block.

I can't stress enough how important pass/fail grading is. At Sinai, we have pass/fail with no ranking at all (ranks are assigned from 3rd year grades, board scores, and extracurricular activities). It definitely changes the dynamic of medical school, making it less stressful and everyone more relaxed.

What's the point of a school being Pass/Fail if they "secretly" rank you anyway?!!! Will the residency programs know your "secret" rank?

well this was a while ago but my high school didn't release rankings, although they had a "secret ranking" to determine class awards and stuff...so they never sent that data to anybody, so colleges couldn't possibly know. I assume it's the same thing in med schools: if they don't send the info, nobody else will ever know it.

but yeah, pass/fail grading is going to be one of the important criteria for me in deciding where to apply and go. I can't imagine having letter grades in med school!!

fyi, Drexel has honors/high pass/pass/fail. Honors is like above 90 or 92 or something, high pass is 87 to 92 or whatever, and then pass is just above 70.

honors = A
high pass = B
pass = C
fail = D

My schools is pass/fail for the first year and second is pretty much graded although they are thinking of making it pass/fail. keeping my fingers crossed....

This isn't true everywhere. Like I said above, it's weird at Drexel, high pass is like just below honors and then everything in the Bs and Cs is just pass.

Loyola is Honors/high Pass/Pass. 70% to the mean (class average) is Pass. greater than 1 standard deviation above mean is Honors. So half the class passes, and half either get HP or H.

And life goes on, just as long as you above 70%.
