ETS (The company that does the GRE) only sends out the scores 2 times a month, via CD-ROM. I know this because I sent out mine end of August and when I inquired about my test scores being received, 2 schools said they didn't have them yet. I called ETS, and they told me, they are sent out at the beginning of the month and the middle (15th'ish).
Since Oct. 1 is a weekend or holiday, most schools are giving your till the 2 or 3 to get your stuff in. Not sure if the CD-ROM will be there at that time. I would call ETS and see if they are making adjustments.
Finally, believe it or not, I was able to send the schools a photocopy of my GRE test results, and they said it would suffice, even if the CD-ROM came after the deadline. I'd look into that that.
