So I'm conflicted as to whether I need to take the GRE again. I took the test earlier today and made 1050 (Q620 V 430). I'm conflicted as to whether I want to take it again to try and get a higher verbal skill. From what I've seen and heard, your score goes up only about 30ish points after retaking it, so I don't want to spend the money if it's not going to improve significantly. My cum GPA is 3.6 while my pre-req GPA is only about a 3.1 so I need a higher GRE score to balance this out. I have 60 outpatient hours, 80 inpatient, and will get about 60-70 pediatric hours this summer. I'm also the President of my sorority and have been a vice president, am involved in our schools freshman mentoring program, and intramurals.

In y'alls opinion should I retake the GRE? Is it feasible that I will get into a school with these stats? I want to sign up earlier rather than later, so I can still take the old test rather than the new one.

IMHO, I think the verbal section is relatively un-teachable. It's pretty simple, either we know the bulk of the vocab used and are therefore able to decipher the correct answers, or we're not.

Check out average scores for schools you are looking at. Some don't put such an emphasis on GRE scores and some want minimum scores on verbal and quantitative section. If you have a well-rounded application and have met minimum GRE scores for schools you are looking at then I would stick with the scores you have.

I think it's always worth taking the test again. The first time around I didn't know what to expect so I was pretty nervous the entire way through. The second time was definintely a lot better because I was comfortable and knew exactly what to expect. Your GPA is pretty decent, but your pre-req's are a little on the lower side. You have an eclectic observation experience so you are good on that. It also seems like you are a well-rounded individual too. If the admissions boards see's that you tried again on the GRE to improve your score, I believe they will take into consideration that you are a hard worker, instead of someone just trying to get by with the minimum requirements (1000 minimum). I just got done with my GRE's so now that's one less stress out of my life... Time to wait till the applications open next month! Good luck and let us know if you decide to take it again!
