Hi Everyone,

So I took my GRE this past Monday and got a 640q and 400v. I studied like crazy and was pretty bummed. My verbal score is about 100pts lower than what I got on my practice tests and also about 100 points lower than my SAT verbal score.

Anyway (this is the advise part), I don't plan on applying to a Phd because after all my prep I'm not too sure how much more I can improve my verbal score. My back up was a PsyD, but I'm wondering if my verbal score will be too low for that.

I have a 3.65 gpa, 1.5 years of research, 3 good letters, and I've been working at a suicide crisis hotline. Do you think my application would hold up?

Candid responses only, and no blah blah about psyd phd. I've made up my mind.

Thanks much!

Which PsyD's in particular are you considering? For many, you're an absolute shoe-in. For some, your GRE is likely too low.

University of Hartford, Chicago School, MSPP, Roosevelt University

Wright State as back up...but I grew up there and I don't really want to go back there.

FWIW, I talked to a psychologist earlier this year who reviews applications and he mentioned an applicant who was pretty good except for low GRE scores. He tried hard to get her in, but was overruled by the committee bc of this factor.

What percentile is that verbal? My program (PhD) cuts off at 33rd percentile.

From what I know of these programs, and based on the full disclosure data that I could find on 2 of the 4 schools' websites, your GRE scores are unlikely to get your application tossed at any of these schools.

thats interesting....i talked to someone in that same type of position and she said that GRE scores werent high on the list of priorities when accepting potentials. unless its under 1000, its usually not that important.

He said what the score was, and the memory is very hazy, but I believe it was just under 1000. I believe one of the scores was around 450, 460 or so, and the other was over 500, but I really am not sure.

Thank you all very much for your input. I'll go a head and apply and see what happens.
