That was a butt kicker indeed. Now I know why they teach cursive writing in 2nd grade - to prepare you for standardized tests where you have to write a pledge not to tell people what's on the test. Good luck reading that stuff - I've been printing almost exclusively since '89. I hope that schools don't weight the essays very much. My first one was ok, but the second topic was someone whining about milk prices and blaming it on farmers. I'm not very good at telling someone they are an idiot in long winded speech. So anyway, I was quite shocked at the end when the scores popped up on the screen - 630 V, 770 Q. Not quite the 1590, but I'll take it.

Oh wow, I didn't know you get your scores right away (except writing). Good job! I am planning to take mine in December or early January after I get back to the states. Any tips?

See, not so bad huh? Your scores are about the same as mine, and mine were considered to be pretty good by the schools I applied to, so I'd say you're in good shape. 👍

(let's hope your AW is better than mine though)

Thanks everyone. I was kind of stunned when I saw the scores on the screen and still don't believe it.
As far as tips, I can only think of a couple. Make sure you get the first 5 quant questions right. Not sure how to ensure this, but that's what the books say. My first question had me scratching my head. Another thing I did was to start writing down all the formulas you can think of during the break between the essays and the next test. You have 10 minutes, which is plenty of time to run to the bathroom and get back to brain storming. Study up on your coordinate geometry - I had a doozy of a question and no idea if I got it right. Otherwise, it's not too bad and goes quickly. The books in general have good recommendations - I think the Kaplan and GRE for Dummies book were the best for tactics.
The experimental section I got was a quant as well. I pity anyone who has to take those tests. That will suck big time. Multiple choice takes on a whole new meaning when you have 5 choices and the answer may be one or all of them. I got half way through it before noticing there is a calculator available as well. Didn't really need it though.

I thought the essays always came first - seemed to be the order of the day today, judging by the typing going on around me. I don't know if it is allowed, but what can they say? Everything was locked in a locker except my DL and the key to the locker. Apparently the whole test room is under video surveillance.

and you're right, writing during the breaks is not allowed. You are only allowed to go to the bathroom or sit there or get water. But you're not supposed to use your scratch paper. Guess you got lucky! An innocent mistake like that could have forfeited that awesome score
