GRE expiration date

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure that the scores are valid for 5 years

For some convergance: 5 years

does anyone know if expired scores still show up on a score report?

i wrote in 1998 - and will re-write this summer. will the schools see my 1998 result?

I don't know but that is one sexy pic of harry pots. haha. He looks like a regular dreamboat there.

I'm fairly certain that ETS only reports scores from the last 5 years (from your score request date), so your 1998 scores should have effectively entered the ether by now, never to be seen again. You might be able to confirm this on the ETS site, or you can always call and speak to one of ETS's fantastically friendly customer service reps...

(ETS managed to provoke from me an extremely rare speech from me on the innappropriateness of extreme rudeness in customer service. I'm usually pretty sympathetic to the miserable conditions of phone work, but this interaction was straight-up over-the-top rude.)

ETS is the devil. I swear, I have never paid so much to anyone and gotten so little. I say this and my scores aren't even bad. They are the exemplar of why you don't want anyone to have a monoply in anything. Their job description I think is "f***ing kids".

I TOTALLY agree. I got married between taking the psych GRE and the general GRE and did not think much about that when I changed my last name... Until I spoke with the ETS after I had requested them to send general and psych scores to the universities I had applied to for PhD programs and I found out that only the general scores had been sent because they could not link the two accounts together due to the name change. I ended up having to pay double to get all the scores sent out. In addition, I had to get scores sent out for the TOEFL test despite having studied & worked for years in England and published as first author in American journals. At least I was accepted where I wanted to go the most. I would have been so disappointed if I had to pay all that money to the ETS this fall. What a money making scheme they have set up!

It truly is a ridiculous racket they have going. Here is another one of my favorites: so you call them to have your scores sent, one each for ten schools, you could have saved some money by putting down the names of the schools first, but why would you do that, what if you do poorly. So you call them, its $15 a pop + $6 per call, and here is the kicker, when you get to 8 they say thatnk you, call again if you have more to send. So you have to call again to send the last two of your 10 schools and they get to charge you another $6.

So the ETS saga is not over for my part because I found a letter from the ETS in my mailbox yesterday. The letter reads:

"Our records indicate that you rescheduled your GRE appointment. However, because of a processing error, you were not charged the rescheduling fee at that time. The fee for this service is $40 per transaction. Please complete the information at the bottom of this letter and return a copy of this letter and payment to the following address (bla bla bla). [...] We apologize for the delay in billing and for any inconvenience this may cause. Sincerely, GRE Services."

I rescheduled and took the test last November and this letter is dated August 9, 2006.

Damn, they work slowly! 😱
