So when you register for the GRE, ETS sends your a CD with their PowerPrep software which includes 2 full length practice tests.(you can also download the sofware off the internet)

Can anyone comment on if their scores on the adaptive practice tests were a fairly accurate prediction of how they did on the actual exam?

I've done both practice exams in the last 2 days and had fairly consistent scores between the two and am wondering if it will be a fairly accurate prediction of how I will do on the actual exam?

Well, I don't know. I seemed to have a lot of trouble with the practice math test, not getting out of the 500s. But when I took the actual GRE, I scored a 700, and that was with a migraine.

Sorry to be so unhelpful!

My practice test scores were pretty comparable to my actual scores. I think I would take it if you feel pretty confident about the material, I'd go ahead and take it.

I am taking the exam Friday morning.(I'm on spring break this week!) I am not worried about the math section, and based on the practice test I figure I should do at least semi satisfactory on the verbal.

ITs a bit different since it is an adaptive test and i dont believe the one on cd was. Just take as many practice tests as you can that would be the best way if you don't take a prep class.

I don't remember how I did on my math practice tests, but I got a 760 on the real thing (I think I may have had a perfect score on one of my practice tests, or close to it). I know on my verbal my practice test scores ranged from 500 to 650 ish. Real test: take 1 480, take 2 540. I probably could have done better had I taken it a third time, but my overall score (and analytical) were already well above posted average scores for my schools and it wasn't worth the extra $115 to hope for getting a higher score, but risk getting a lower one.

I had a similar experience. I scored much higher on the real test than on any of the practice tests I took.

I recall my scores on those practice tests being very close to each other and very close to what I scored on the real thing (which I took within a few days after completing those practice tests).

I would say that if you feel comfortable with the test and how you're working through it right now, go ahead and take the real thing.

Good luck!

My real test was about 100 points lower than my practice tests. Boo 😡
I still got into schools though, even with not so great GRE scores. 🙂

My practice tests scores were all very close to each other and to the real thing.

My math score was about the same as the practice tests, but my verbal was about 50 points lower, but verbal is unpredictable anyway (in my opinion).

My practice tests really, really ranged. I mean I scored anywhere from 460 - 750 in each section. So they didn't really indicate anything for me. I came out better on the math than the verbal.

Just remember (after you go over those triangles one more time) to eat a good meal, hydrate, and get some good sleep! You'll do fine : )

I did about 130 points BETTER on the actual GRE than practice tests. My scores really ranged on the practice tests-- totally depends on the questions you get. Hopefully the actual day you have a GOOD guessing day and easy ?'s! 😀
