I know this is an old topic, but I'm wanting advice regarding my specific situation. So I completed a core psych rotation earlier this year, and was told that it would be greenbook and signed off by a specific hospital. Come to find out a few weeks ago, the hospital will not be signing off on it and it won't be counted as hospital affiliated. My options are to A: re-do the rotation at a hospital affiliated site (which I'm not really excited about), or B: leave it be since it will be counted as a core for ecfmg certification. My question is this: Do residencies care if one of your core rotations is greenbook? I know that I've heard that it is more of a factor for state licensing boards than for residency, but I can't help but wonder if the program directors for residency programs look down on non-hospital affiliated core rotations. I am a carribean school med student and am applying for match in 2013. My preferred states for matching are pennsylvania, florida, ohio, south carolina, and west virginia. Any advice regarding which programs in the US to apply to from Carribean med schools would be great as well! Also, a third question is this: I have a fairly low, first pass step 1 score. It is below the requirements for a few of the programs I'm applying to, should I still apply? Thanks so much for any advice!!!!!

p.s. for example, this is what the requirements for medical licensing in Oregon are for clerkships:

Clerkships: Clinical clerkships taken in US or Canada, post-June 30, 1988, must be in institutions whose postgraduate training is accredited by the ACGME, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the AOA in the specific subject of the clerkship.

here is one from the ohio state medical board requirements: I have done all of my core rotations greenbook except for psychiatry. This means Family, Internal, Surgery, Peds, OBGYN are all greenbook. Will this meet that requirement? Or do I need to re-do psych at a greenbook location?

Graduates of all other medical schools must:

- Hold a valid ECFMG certificate unless they have completed a Fifth Pathway program.

- Successfully complete not less than two years of GME through the second-year level of
training or have completed a Fifth Pathway program plus 1 year of GME, or its equivalent as
determined by the Board.

- Achieve a score of at least 26 in Speaking and 26 in Listening with a total score of 90 on the
TOEFL iBT offered by the Educational Testing Service, regardless of citizenship or country of
birth. Prior to July 2006, the Test of Spoken English was required with a minimum score of
40 (between 7/95-7/06) or 230 (prior to 7/95).

The following are the only exceptions permitted under Ohio law:
- fulfillment of preliminary education requirements (i.e., completion of two years of
undergraduate college work) in the U.S.; or

- possession of a current medical license (including temporary licenses, training
certificates, etc.) in the U.S. pursuant to which the holder has actively practiced
medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery, including accredited
graduate medical education training, for the last five years (must have been
actively practicing medicine in the U.S. for at least nine full months during each of
the five years) immediately preceding the date of the application; or

- completion of a Fifth Pathway program; or

- passed the Clinical Skills Assessment examination given by ECFMG on or after
7/1/98.

I thought this was going to be a thread about 3rd edition (red Book) vs 4th edition (green book) of Pocket Medicine. Interesting dilemma! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT!

I opened this thread simply because I have no clue what greenbook is and was mildly intrigued. (And if the answer doesn't appear on the first page of a google search then, for my purposes, no such answer exists.)

Medical students from other countries attempting to rotate in the united states with the intention of working here are held to a higher standard, and for some states, especially Texas, to give them licensure they need to show that every rotation they went to was part of an ACGME residency.

The book of ACGME residencies used to be green, thus greenbook rotations.

The DO residencies used to be in a blue book. You can figure out the rest.

Ok so I have been researching this extensively up to sending a mail to all of the state medical boards... except illinois, interesting I could not find an email address, and I dare not call and attempt to interact with the human subspecies Homogovernmentus hominus.

All most all have informed me that bluebook or non-acgme rotations will not inhibit the ability to get a residency however obtaining a license could be another issue.

Now... I have gone further and sent emails to several residency programs and asked them how they view "non-acgme" rotations.

Hopefully I will have more data soon to share with everyone.
