Ground state and excited state

Could you guys explain the ground state and excited state?

I know those are related to electron configurations in gen chem. As far as I remember correctly, I also saw this in orgo section too. Which part of orgo related to ground state and excited state?

Ground state is where an electron normally would reside. When it is excited that means that it has extra energy and is in a different orbital that where it would normally be found because it has more energy than usual.
