Group Interviews?

Hello,

I'm new here. I'm going DPT and was wondering if anybody had their interviews yet? I have one coming up for UMDNJ South/Rutgers SHRP, and it says the format of the interview will be group.

So does this mean multiple applicants will be interviewed at once, or multiple faculty will interview me? Anybody went through UMDNJ South's group interview process before or from other schools? What should I expect?

hey,

a group interview can be set up in several ways:
-only you with several professors/faculty
-one on one
-you with several candidates (between 3-5) and 1+ faculty

Usually with a group interview, they will ask a question and sometimes they indicate who they want to answer first, sometimes they just let you all jump in. It's easier if they indicate who they want to answer beacuse each person has a chance to respond. The hardest part of this way is if you have a similar answer of "why you want to be a PT" then you don't sound unique. Maybe prep for this type will include brain storming unique answers to the more common questions.

If they don't specify, there's more stratgey - you want to show a leadership role without being too controlling of the conversation, so jump in there for the first response, and the next question hold back and let someone else respond first. Again, if you respons first your answer is the first to be heard, but it would be advised to have a unique answer to stand out from the next response that will probably not be so unqiue. They're also looking for how you interact with the other candidates in conversation AND BODY LANGUAGE is HUGE in an interview. I know easier said than done, but the more you can relax, the more natural your body language becomes and they can really pick up on that.

So I set up the interview, and the lady did confirm it is a group interview with up to 4max applicants being interviewed by 2 faculty members. Anyone out there want to help us out with some questions UMDNJ/Rutgers asks or potential Qs?

I have been reading some of the questions being posted by others, and they all seem to help. I think my greatest fear is being nervous, which leads me to panic.

OP, I AIMed you, but no response, did you already interview? Please any info is useful.

I had a group interview at my school and it went really well and I was the only person to get in from my group..I'm now in the second year of the program. We had 5 people in the group with 1 faculty and 1 current student in the program interviewing. At least at my school, the interview is a "hurt but can't help" you type of filtering tool. They had their mind made up, and as long as you can string some thoughts together and make yourself presentable, you'll be o.k.

You do get the typical "why are you interested in PT" and "talk about somebody who has been a role model to you"

Don't be afraid of your past or where you grew up, they asked us about who each of our role models were, and all of my fellow interviewees had long drawn out stories about therapists they've followed and how they've miracously cured someone from a TBI and all this.....

I was just honest and told them that my dad was my role model and he was nothing more then a driven man who worked to put food on the table for his family as a farmer and snow plow driver. So moral of the story is, don't think you have to spin every question back to the physical therapist profession.

They did ask what are some current issues and challenges of the PT profession, so when your volunteering, have open ears during those lunch breaks and listen to the small talk about stuff like that.

Relax and be confident...as you get into school and take practicals, and do clinical internships, you're going to be so f'in nervous so often, but you got to be able to "turn it on" and make it look like you're 100% sure of yourself and you know exactly what you're doing.

So it was today, it was kind of tough, but def answerable. I think i got tooo nervous and intimidated by others, but it calmed down.
