GS Programs: Number of spots per program?

Quick Question...Is there any way to see a breakdown of each States' programs AND the number of spots offered for a GS PGY1 position for each individual program? I saw the ERAS programs and how many positions each STATE had, but I would like to know how many positions each program has within each state...if that makes any sense...haha Any help would be much appreciated.

ERAS showed you how many positions each state had? Isn't that what you're looking for?

If you're looking for a listing of how many spots each program offers, look at FREIDA.

FREIDA doesn't outright state the # of slots a program is accredited for (please correct me if i'm being blind...), though you can take a very accurate guess by the # of PGY5s a program has listed.

Another source would be to go straight to the ACGME's records to determine how many slots a given program is accredited for:

Choose Search --> Accredited Programs from the top left.

I do suggest using IE rather than firefox as there seems to be a bug that prevents you from going beyond the initial screen when in firefox.


This site will tell you after clicking "view details" :

1.) how many categorical slots a program is accredited for
2.) last accreditation site visit
3.) accreditation status

In general, most programs have large PGY-1 and PGY-2 classes due to Prelims and non-G Surg residents (ENT, GU, Ophtho, etc.). Their PGY-3, PGY-4 and PGY-5 class sizes should be equal - that's your number.

Alternatively, just look at each program's website - should list the program size there.

If you go to the NRMP site and look at their data tables, the actually do have tables listed by state and then each program individually. You can see the number of positions allotted and the number filled during the match; this is probably what you want.

...of note is that the ACGME site above does distinguish clearly between slots accredited for categorical vs prelim vs designated prelim training at each year of training for a given program:

My grand scheme (if i ever scrape together the cash) is to get one of those widescreen Mac powerbooks and then dual boot Windows on it using BootCamp. best of both worlds -- beautiful hardware, familiar software.

Due to my (extremely) limited budget, right now I'd just be happy with a 13" Mac Book. The black color looks nicer than the white one, IMHO.

I have a Mac PowerBook...my parents have this box with a keyboard that they tell me is a computer, but I'm thinking abacus with a tin can and string phone line attached is a more applicable descriptor.

(they live in rural central Cali with no cable line access and since they are relative technophobes they have not gotten satellite internet access. The dial up is like 4 kb per second...make that per hour. If I complain enough, they will get satellite...just like the finally got the satellite tv a few years back when all the kids complained when they visited.)

I've always used PCs myself until KentW convinced me to get the Mac. Its really not that hard to learn the Apple software...no reason to run Windows on it, IMHO.

They're about 45 mins south of Fresno. Fresno is not rural, IMHO...where my parents live is (ie, 20 mits to the nearest store, 1 mile to the nearest neighbor).

I went to Fresno State and worked at UCSF-Fresno for many years doing medical research. The town has changed immensely since I left.
