My goal is to get through Gunner Training (bank all Qs) before starting on UWorld. Right now, have gone through about half of the material. (Mainly need to find time to work through the basic science sections... 😴)

Taking step in middle of June. Pressure is on!

... Anyone else attempting the same? Or should I just get on that UWorld now?? I don't really want to "save" the Qs for dedicated study period, as I'm "slow" at burning through Qs. (Takes me forever to read & digest all the answer explanations.)

(Btw, all this @#%! effort better pay off. 😎)

I was attempting the same, but GT is taking too long, so I started UWorld this week while I keep plowing through GT. Next week is vacation so hopefully I can finish it then.

i have both currently. i ttry to do GT initially and closer to my exam i try to do UWorld.. except it totally didnt happen with this last unit that we did, renla/GI.. wasnt able to do a single UWorld question.

This is my plan. I'm taking the test in late May. Been doing GT since the summer, 96% banked, should get it all banked sometime in the next week or two and then will start doing UWorld. I've also been doing kaplan qbank along with classes and have gotten through about 80% of that. I'm planning on trying to through Uworld twice and maybe kaplan another time before the real deal.

My plan is similar and I plan to pick up the 3mo UW subscription. I have to speed up the GT banking, especially on the basic sciences which are taking forever.

average is probably about 200
How long does that usually take?
How to do balance that with school work?
How beneficial do you feel it has been?

Sorry lots of questions, Im an MS1 and have been doing it as we've been covering it in class I really like it but I'm not doing that many questions.
Thanks

How do you motivate yourself to get through GT? I really like it, but i have only about 20% banked and it's so hard to do my daily reviews (I can't imagine having 200 cards each day :scared: Plus how do you balance all those reviews with classwork?

How long does that usually take?

It usually takes me 20-30 minutes to get through 50 questions, so 1-2 hours a day. I've only had 200qs/day or so in the last couple of months, basically its the combination of having lots of stuff banked, plus I've been adding one additional subject along with whatever I'm studying in school (i.e. i just finished neuro and banked the questions for neuro and psych). Part of why I've been doubling up is that way by the time my dedicated study period comes around in May it should be down to below 100 qs a day.

How to do balance that with school work?
I tend to do one of three things as far as balancing it with the rest of my day. I either bang it out in the morning before school, do 50 questions as a break between reading stuff for school (i.e. read for an hour do 50 qs rinse and repeat after lecture), or do it at night before I go to bed when I'm to fried to do much of anything else. Also, to maximize how much it synergizes with my classwork I try to get all of the flashcards for the block that we are studying added at least 2 weeks before my exam and that way it helps me learn stuff for school too.

How beneficial do you feel it has been?

I think that it has been incredibly beneficial, but I'll tell you for sure in June. So far I think that it has given me a great knowledge base. It also helps me learn new materiel. For example, remembering about 95% more immunology than I normally would have made learning path and rheum much more fun and intuitive than it would have been otherwise. My classmates and small group preceptors are usually pretty impressed by how much I know and I think that a big part of that is due to GT.

I guess to sum it up, I think that it is a very big time commitment, but it is definitely effective. I couldn't tell you if it is the absolute most effective way to spend your time, but for me I feel like it gets me to put in a lot more time to my board prep than I would have up to this point and gives me a really good knowledge base to work from.

good luck!
