Tulane just for Mardi Gras.

Actually, I heard a lot of people don't like Georgetown for many reasons. I haven't heard those kind of complaints about Tulane.

hey texasguy,

i can tell you right now that most people on this forum will tell you lots of bad things about georgetown just from what ive seen over the past month. im hesitant to believe all this negativity just b/c a lot of these people have never attended there. they will talk about their falling prestige, budget problems, excessive workload, cocky dorky students, etc.......anyhow, i would go for a 2nd look and talk with as many students as possible...preferably 4th years. i am thinking about the same schools myself and all the negativity i have read here on SDN about georgetown makes me skeptical, but i still want to see it myself

I just don't want the advice of anyone in the Physio program. I'm sorry, I know you people work hard...but you aren't Gtown med students and so you have a different view point. I know the Physio program is super cut throat - I'm trying to figure out how competitive the MED students are. thanks, dave

Dave,

Not knowing anything about the two schools other than Georgetown's obsession with the phrase "cura personalis," I would pick G-town because I LOVE washington!!! I must note that if you are from Texas I am surprised you are choosing between these two expensive schools and not a TX school though.

i think one of my classmates quit gt and came to tulane. Washington is an awesome city...so its a close call...you'll probably be happier with picking the school vs. the city since you'll be spending a lot of time in the school

I've heard great things about Tulane, and I've heard/know bad things about GT. Where there is smoke, there generally is fire.

I enjoyed Tulane a lot when I visited. Probalby the most apparent thing to me is how laid back the students are. Maybe its a southern thing, but everyone is really chill and laid back. Also, its right next to Harrah's casino! The facilities weren't that great, but then again, neither is georgetown's. At least Tulane is above ground I guess. This would be a hard choice for me. You cant lose either way. I personally dont like humidity, and i need snow so i can go boarding so I'd choose GU over Tulane.

exmike, which do you think has a stronger program?

Personally I think GU has a stronger program simply because of it's research base. Tulane isnt really a research institution and that probably reflects in their national reputation. However that also means they focus more on patient care which translates to well trained students so I think Tulane grads are just as well recieved as grads from GU in residency placement. So I would say Georgetown edges Tulane by a small margin.

don't know anything about the two schools, but GT undoubtedly has the better reputation in terms of name in undergrad, grad, medical, everything.

You can do research anywhere if you have the initiative to set it up yourself. You cannot, however, find patients like we have in New Orleans in very many other places outside the 3rd world.
