Guelph- "Send prereq course proposals 8 weeks prior..." Oh, crap.

So up until about a week or two ago, I was applying to 8 U.S. schools when I got the thought, "Hey, why not apply to OVC?" I recently sent out all of my transcripts/GRE reports, and then I saw this on the Guelph website...
"A list of acceptable University of Guelph courses for DVM admission for students attending the University of Guelph is available here.
Prerequisite courses proposed to be completed at an institution other than the University of Guelph must be submitted for approval as being acceptable prior to application. Send requests at least 8 weeks prior to when a decision is needed to Deanna Lundmark in writing by mail or fax.
Requests must include:

  • A transcript of university courses completed to date
  • A list of proposed courses for the upcoming academic year (if applicable) including course names, numbers and credit weights by semester
  • A list of the eight courses to be presented as prerequisite courses and course descriptions of these courses.
  • your email address
  • your mailing address"

Even if I sent that list tonight it's definitely not going to be there 8 weeks before October 3rd, unless that's not what they mean by "8 weeks prior to when a decision is needed"...? Just wondering if Guelph will likely consider this a deal breaker, if they do mean 8 weeks before October 3rd. I know it's not a common application choice, but hopefully somebody has some experience with the school...should I apply anyway, since I already sent my transcript and GRE scores?

Why not call them first thing tomorrow and see? If they say no, then just don't bother sending the rest of the application.

cherrywheat, if you happen to get in contact with someone tomorrow, please let me know what they tell you! i recently also was contemplating adding OVC to my list and wasn't aware of this time constraint...

Why don't you just fax it in? That way it will get there right away, no hassles.

If you tell them that you're an international student applying for fall 2016 entry (aka that it's urgent), they should be able to approve/reject your proposed prereqs in <1 month.

When I was sending in course approval requests in 2nd year, I had to wait 6 months before they got back to me. As soon as I was in 3rd year and essentially said "um I'm applying this year and need to know right now if I need to take this course or not", they got back to me within weeks. They give priority to the current application cycle so they process those requests first. It's definitely not a dealbreaker because my last biological science course wasn't approved until I saw my final mark for it and decided that I wanted to use immunology as a prereq (I took the course in fall semester, so I didn't get the final mark back until mid-January), and the BIF was due March 1st.

Also, fax it so it gets there asap.

I thought OVC required MCAT scores not GRE? I could be mistaken or they have recently changed it. Good luck!

They require the MCAT for Canadian applicants. I believe the GRE is for international students.
