Not sure if it makes me feel better, or worse, to think that a computer somewhere knows my fate at this moment.
My bet is a computer knew our fates roughly 10-15 minutes past the rank deadline a week ago.Not sure if it makes me feel better, or worse, to think that a computer somewhere knows my fate at this moment.
They find out whether or not we matched at the same time we do. They find out where a day or two before us (to give them time to print off the reports and stuff them into personalized envelopes)When do our school administrators find out?

Any stories of "leaks" going out to the students ahead of time? Do they have extra tight security guarding that info and stuff? lol

yeah...in 2007 everyone going for geriatric gynecology found out they matched by accident 6.9 days early. Obviously this caused a huge mess and they had to cover their tracks by saying it was a hack job.

The pediatric in-vitro fertilization fellowship had a similar problem...

Anyone notice this?
what about it

for real though, does anyone know why it takes so long between the submission of ROL and the match results? does it really take a computer almost three weeks to tell if you matched or not?
Why does it take three weeks from the rank order list (ROL) deadline to Match Day?
Several weeks are needed for the NRMP to take a number of steps to ensure the accuracy of Match results and the subsequent release of Match information. Those steps include:
Checking the integrity and completeness of the data.
Transferring the data to the algorithm module, checking it again, and processing the matching algorithm.
Verifying the results of The Match and transferring the data into the NRMP databases.
Conducting the Match Week Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).
Creating more than 60,000 individual reports for applicants, programs, and schools, and assuring confidentiality of that information.
The official explanation, from the NRMP:
Personally, I would find it bizarre any of that isn't automated and done algorithmically. But whatever, it is what it is.

It's an incredibly complicated alorithm to begin with, and it is far from perfect. Hence they check a lot of it manually.
Honest question, does knowing three weeks sooner change anything significantly? Other than appeasing people's neuroses. . .
Yes. Houses to sell, daycare to get on wait lists for, SO's looking for jobs, moving to arrange, etc.
I get that (dealing with all of them except day care), but I still don't think 3 weeks is going to help/hurt me.
