Can someone tell me what the "Reschedule button does." I'm scared to push it. I guess I think I'll mess something up with my schedule. Thanks.

Complete all your study, review and catch-up questions for:

Anyone know how doing all review questions for a subject affects the scheduling of these questions? I do not remember how this worked with GT.

Do you guys feel that some of the new cards/questions are not as relevant to step 1? Or are you guys sucking it up and learning all of them. Like the Brain Abscess card... And I had a question regarding Vit D deficiency treatment with doses and maintenance therapy. They also kept the "Headache" card under Neuro Path, and added a whole new Headache section... with the same cards... and so we have double headache review questions... (I'm just ranting now...)

I already feel like there are so many more daily questions to do compared to when I was on GT. I don't want to deal with these low yield cards.

FC has to add the "Perfect Recall" feature very soon....

I think the GT team is mocking our grievances with the addition of their newest feature on FC: custom background themes. 5 different colors to choose from! Excellent choice of priorities.

FC Settings -> scroll to bottom for Themes

man, i've been studying for a block exam and haven't been keeping up with cards (+800-900 to do after tomorrow :<) and thought this was a joke, its not

how do we make it known we really want the % mastery back? 🙁

Maybe if everyone sends feedback through that little comment bar at the bottom?

BTW, does anyone know how - or if - we can still do questions in advance. Sometimes if I have a low load or have free time I do the next day's batch.

Having just switched over from GT, I have to agree that there are a lot of new questions which are based off of info that I have not seen in FA or in the Kaplan review books which makes me feel it is probably LY, but the OCD side of me get's the better of me and I end up reviewing the topic anyway.

I agree, I want the feature that lets you do questions early as well.

OTHER FEATURES THAT WOULD BE NICE TO GET BACK:
Perfect Recall
Being able to see and manually adjust when that question will re-appear once you rate it (I have no idea what the alogrithm for FC is like now without this feature)
% Mastery/Complete

I thought we were promised we wont be moved over until FC has EVERYTHING THAT GT HAD. Yes GT didn't shut down YET, but moving our account info over = we have to migrate. Or else our FC account will be loooaadded with questions once we are forced to move over to FC when GT shuts down (In feb. or something?)

So FC staff.... please add the old features onto FC as they were promised. Seems like this is what a lot of people are hoping for as well. Thank you.

Wait - so they ARE forcing migrations? I thought that was the whole point ... that the ones that have happened so far are optional and until all features are on FC they won't?

No one's forced to migrate. There will be another round of migrations before GT closes, but not until then, whenever that is. Therefore, it's likely that even if you migrated already and hate FC you could go back to GT and work on that until they shut down GT and migrate you again. The only "force" in this scenario is that you were made to choose whether you wanted to migrate now, or some time later in the future.

Sorry, I meant we are technically forced to migrate if we decided to migrate early (now). B/c if we get migrated now, and don't use FC until GT shuts down, our FC account will pile up questions. But you still can use GT.

For those of you who didn't click on migrating now, then I think you are OK until they do shut down GT (I think it said Feb...). Sorry for the confusion, I guess I speak on behalf of those who opted to get transferred now...which was a mistake.

I think you can go back to GT and use it until the second migration. At that point, you'd remigrate and there wouldn't be a backlog of FC data from the first migration. The way I understand it, each migration is a fresh copy of your review history etc over to FC, wiping out the currently stored FC review data.

Yeah I opted-in to the migration back on Dec 13 when their email was worded "migrate me in Jan" or "don't migrate my data because I want a fresh start on FC once GT gets shut down." So now I was migrated before I wanted to be and I have to choose between using FC before all the features are implemented...or letting my q's pile up on FC while continuing to use GT and then losing all the notes/banking/ratings I do on GT. Since they have been totally shifty and noncommittal about when they are going to shut down GT and whether they will let people who are about to take step1 keep using GT until their test date, I have chosen to start using FC despite the lack of some important features and the presence of some bugs because now I don't want to risk suddenly losing a goodly-sized chunk of my progress right before I take step1.

To be fair, I should have changed my migration preference after a more careful reading of the Jan 3 email where they added the new clarification about not migrating and then getting a chance to migrate at the time of the 2-week warning for GT's shutdown. But still.

really? That'd be cool : ] but I don't want to risk it without checking with the GT/FC staff to see if that would work, first

I'm actually a little confused about this. I've migrated over to firecracker and haven't used GT since. I was pretty resistant to FC at first, but I'm more or less on board now. Meanwhile, my cards have piled up in GT. It just wouldn't make sense for the next round of migration to go back to whatever I had in GT, even if I banked a new card since the migration... Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean.

The second migration, much like the first, will be opt-in. If you migrated the first time and you're happy with FC, your GT subscription will just wither and die and you can forget it. If you did not migrate, when GT closes you'll be asked whether you want to move or not. If you don't move, you obviously stop using the program. If you move, you go to FC with everything in GT moved at that point. If you migrated the first time, but aren't happy, you could theoretically go back to GT for the time being and do a second migration, at which time it'll be as if you never migrated in the first place.

Opt-in. Of course. Thanks for clearing that up. Man, I always feel so foolish around withrye.

Edit - not being sarcastic, in case I came across that way. I actually feel like withrye is the voice of reason around here.

Two issues:

I tried to log in to FC today to check out the progress on some of the new features but for some reason it said my account was expired. I have been using GT and plan on sticking with it until they close it down and force me to switch but why wouldn't my FC account reflect my GT account details?

Also, and I posted this a few days back but got no reply, does anyone have any idea why I haven't been able to log in to GT with my phone recently? I used to get through quite a few questions a day like that, but now when I try to log in it just keeps taking me back to the log-in page...

Any input would be appreciated

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but when they migrated my GT to Firecracker, they did not migrate the membership time that I paid for. So essentially they brought over all the cards I banked through GT, but now I have no access to them in Firecracker and my daily reviews are just building. Plus, even if I wanted to keep banking cards on GT, none of those will carry over to Firecracker, which would just continue to waste my time. I know the firecracker/GT authors monitor this thread, so can someone do something about this!!

The fastest way to get in contact with FC staff is to email them. Yes, they read this thread from time to time, but this thread is by no means a customer service vehicle.

That's what I figured, until I wrote 5 emails and received zero feedback. However, one hour after writing my original post, I received two emails back and they gave me a free month for my trouble. Moral of the story, student doctor complaints >>>>>> emailing (probably due to the visibility of the complaint). Despite this lapse in customer service, I must admit I would be lost without GT.

Is it just me or are the bars in the "Progress" section of the homepage blank? The number shows if you hover but I have a feeling they are supposed to be colored.

I MISS THE PIE CHARTS!

I banked a whole bunch of cards and it would make me feel good to see my mastery % go up.

emailed FC complaining that they hadn't migrated me over yet and asking about perfect recall.

This is what Ben said:
...

I use perfect recall to get rid of stupid questions and to remove questions that I will never forget (like STEMI=transmural and NSTEMI is subendocardial), so if anyone uses this feature, let FC know so they can include it.

Unflagging a topic is NOT the same thing

pretty much what he said...

Same, I want the PR back to get rid of questions I think I don't need anymore. Would definitely want this back

Why do you click perfect recall? Is it because you don't like the question, because you are sure you will never forget the associated concept/answer? Or is it to reduce your review questions?"
Unflagging a topic is NOT the same thing

These two, especially the latter. Please put it back. and the %'s too. Thanks.

Saw that link, would like PR... but would like progress bars and mastery moar! Sorry 🙁 voted for them lol.

I don't PR anyway. If I know it that well, what's another 2 seconds to blurb the answer. Completion % provides incentive for me.

Hey guys,

I'm taking my boards in ~2.5 months, and I had told myself that I definitely needed to finish banking GT by the end of January. I wanted to have ~1.5 months to work on getting my mastery up and going through the tough questions before dedicated study starts, and luckily I've now been through almost everything in my classes...I'm in Inflammation/Rheum/Ortho now, but outside of that I just have Infectious Diseases (and I've already done Microbio last year, so I can finish banking that before) and Derm/Optho left before study time.

However, I'm just generally slower at everything than I wanted to be, and I'm still about 275 cards out from finishing banking (75% done). Luckily, almost everything that is left is stuff that I've done before, so I'm hoping that I can bank them quickly.

I know it's 100% crazy, but I'm still going to try to get just suck it up and get through them this weekend (I have ~3 days and no test this week, so it's not a bad time for me). I may go ahead and try to do my questions from this weekend early (tonight/tomorrow) so that I can focus on banking over the weekend.

I know that it'll add an insane amount of questions next week, and I plan on trying to spread them out (banking 3s and 4s at first and trying to customize my schedule). But I think this will be better than just not getting them done at all.

Sorry this was so long, but my main question is this: I know that at least 1 person on this thread has done this before, but I can't quite remember who it was or how it turned out for him/her. Anyone remember? And/or, has anyone else done a significant final push to get through everything, and how did that work for you guys?

Thanks!

You get 10 votes to spread around as you like. You should still have more votes in case you want to go back and use one more for perfect recall

lol I.... I used all 10 votes on variations of the same thing: progress bars, pie charts, the ability to have 100% complete back when looking at your list of topics instead of these numbers. Basically the top 3.

🙁 sorry haha

Hey Skassf,

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I know it's definitely going to be rough for a bit until I get my mastery up...I think I'm prepared for the massive load of questions (although I'm sure it will royally suck), and I've luckily entered a bit of an easier time classes-wise (fewer mandatory ones...usually I have 15-20 hours of mandatory per week), so hopefully I'll be able to stay up with them.

It's nice to know that other people have done the same, though...it'll suck, but at least it'll be possible. Luckily I think I only have ~2350 questions that I'll be adding to the stack instead of like 4 or 5k haha. Better than nothing, I suppose?

Just migrated to Firecracker from GT (they sent me an email saying they were doing it - I opted in a month ago or so). On GT I was 80% banked with 49% mastered, so just over half of my banked questions mastered. In Firecracker, my "performance" bar shows 3/4 of my banked questions with scores of 4 or 5. Anyone else having this happen? Doesn't make sense, really. I'd like to think I am at a higher level of mastery haha, but I'm not sure how to explain it.

Percent mastery in GT was calculated based on the total number of questions, not based on those you've banked. Therefore, it was only possible to reach something like 40% banked, 40% mastery or 80% banked, 80% mastery. In FC, the progress bar is showing you all of your flagged (banked) questions and their respective assignments. Therefore, it's possible to have something like 80% flagged, 99% (of those flagged) ranked 4 or 5.

And how about being able to see how many questions a particular card has associated with it before we bank/flag it? That's a nice feature on GT. That way if I'm pressed for time I can avoid the 25 question cards and look at them another time...

BTW I'm unable to log in to FC as of now so I have no idea if they've added this feature yet...

It's your lucky day! Right next to the little flag icon is a numeric indicator of the number of questions associated with that topic.

That makes sense, but it shouldn't have changed that much. 50% mastered total with 80% total banked in GT should have come up in Firecracker as 50/80 mastered, right? Mine fraction of 4s and 5s is much higher than that. Maybe I have been really giving a lot of 4s and 5s in the last week without noticing much. Just a little weird.

Anyway to customize the keyboard shortcuts in FC? I liked GTs where the right arrow was to show the answer

Interesting... my GT went down last night with around 200 quiz questions scheduled for today. I woke up this morning to enter the new world of Firecracker and am greeted with 3,200 quiz questions.

Wait.............. you see stuff there?

My performance bar is blank! If I hover over it shows a number but there's nothing actually in the bar.

Also, they changed stuff! We can adjust dates again, and they added numbers to the topics to show many cards you've flagged.

Though bars and progress charts are still better, it's good to see there are movements being made.

...............but please put the bars back if possible! They're prettier.

Has this sudden appearance of 3000 questions when transferring from GT to FC happened to anybody else?

Has this sudden appearance of 3000 questions when transferring from GT to FC happened to anybody else?

I only got about 200 cards added to my migration. I guess it collectively depends on what cards you have banked for that DAY buuuuuut I really don't know what to say. 3000 for a handful of cards it a ridiculous amount. I think it's more of a glitch...

I had this problem for a while... turned out it was because I was using IE. When I opened it in Chrome, the colored bars were there. I let them know, but I got a response that basically said "Don't use IE, we don't support it" =P I actually don't really like IE that much either, but I do think companies should account that users are going to use a variety of browsers.

The breakdown is around 2,400 for "Study Plan" cards, 50 or so "Review Cards" and 700 or so "Catch-Up" cards. This makes no sense. I just logged back into GT and my daily quiz is 140 questions (lite mode).

Study Plan cards are newly banked cards... maybe you accidentally (or a glitch did it...) banked a whole bunch of topics? Check to see what you may not have covered. Honestly can't explain anything else.

I don't think FC has a lite mode. Therefore, you may have kept the same flagged topics but gained ALL the questions that would have been there had you used comprehensive mode on GT.

Good luck with your life, don't die.
