Ok, I'll try to sum it up here. Basically, I took biochem 1 about 3 years ago at a different university and got a B in the course. Biochem 2 I got a C. Alright so I am retaking courses right now and I think I might get a C or even a D in biochem 1. What the frick do I do?! The class wasn't easy as avg for tests were 67, 59 and a 63. I can still retake biochem 2 but it's with the same professor. I'm going to replace my B in biochem 1 with a C or D. Smh.

What I don't understand is why are you retaking biochem series especially since you got a B in the first place? Only retake it if you have C-. a C even though its not good, its still okay. Don't dwell on it and move on to taking other advanced science courses.

The grades are not going to be replaced. I am not sure about D.O. Schools but for MD, they see both and it looks quite bad. They're going to question, why did you retake it?

I retook it because I wanted to retake upper level courses to prove myself to med schools. I should have just stuck with the B 🙁 this totally sucks I can't work backwards! Ill probably get an A in genetics though (last time I took it I got a C).

You can't prove anything to medical school if you retake your upper level courses again because anyone can retake a course and do better. You already learn the material once and by taking it again, you're just re-understanding the portions that you didn't understand the first time you took it. They don't want to see that. They prefer you take different advanced science courses you haven't taken before. Why waste time and retake a course (unless you have a C-) when you can use that time to take different courses?

I was in the same boat as you. I got a C (well not sure yet, but I'm guessing) in a medical physiology course (in a post bac program) and I was freaking out whether I need to retake it. I called all the admissions office. They responded no unless you want to, but they rather have me take different advanced science courses. What's important is that you move on and do better (& improved) rather than you look back and dwell on it. When it comes to calculating the grades on your AMCAS, they're counting both, not replacing it. But if you apply to a D.O. school, then it'll help.

I hope this helps.

Is it too late to change to audit?

I tried contacting her but no luck. 🙁 wow this would be such a huge mistake on my part. So, if I apply to a DO school will they take the second grade or take the best grade out of the two?
