Details please if you pulled this off.
yeah there was someone like that when I went to my interview, but the airline had lost his luggage so he had to think of something quick. So that is understandable.I thought everyone does. However while interviewing at a D.O. School this round I saw a guy wearing a blue shirt and tie with khaki's. I felt sorry for him, and I know he felt out of place.
I wore a (Van Heusen [sp?]) blue pin-striped button-down long-sleeved shirt, a silver and blue tie, slacks, and that was it. No jacket for me, and I got into TCOM. EVERYone else wore the standard suit, and they probably thought I felt a little out of place. But, I was the one out of the group that stood out, and I had a few comments from the admissions office on how they liked my shirt. As long as it's tastefully done, I don't feel there's anything wrong with distinguishing yourself from all the other applicants.
I agree 100%. Part of the interview is how you comport yourself to the people who are interviewing you and the image of self-confidence that you have in yourself. It shows that you are ready to become a professional instead of remaining a college-student were anything goes anyday (for the most part).I would say it's a sign of disrespect for the school if you don't wear a suit to interview. This is a massively important part of the process... part of it is being professional, part of it is being humble yet confident, part of it is tradition... It all comes down to the fact that you're going to have to go and present yourself to someone that is about to make one of the biggest decisions regarding your life. So don't underdress and don't stick out. You want to be remembered for what you said, not what you wore.

As long as you look professional and carry yourself well, there is no problem with the interview.
As long as you look professional and carry yourself well, there is no problem with the interview. I don't have a suit and never have had one because I am on the borderline of being poor, so I wore a shirt, tie, and slacks to the interview. I had 3 interviews and I got into all 3 schools. Just present yourself well, and answer their questions in a comfortable confident manner.

Like Krazykritter stated, I didn't wear my suit to my first interview this year b/c the airline had re-routed me 3x on my way there, but my luggage did not join me until the interview was over and I was checking in at the airport for my return flight home. But I also wouldn't use that as an excuse to show up in my "Life is Good" t-shirt either. Took a taxi to an all night Walmart and grabbed what looked like a reasonable top & slacks (the changing rooms were closed at midnight, so I was also guessing whether they'd fit or not, too - since I'm not a guy...) and prayed that my interviewers would understand, which I think they did, since I was accepted!! I felt totally weird and out of place being there without a suit on amongst my fellow interviewees and I don't recommend it at all. I also don't recommend checking your luggage for interview trips, either.

I wore a tan 3-piece suit with light pink or green shirts. I wanted to express myself while dressing formally and I did not want to show up in the regulation funereal black that everyone else wears. Actually black is my favorite suit color but it does lead to the march of the penguins effect.
wow that must be nerveracking. but congrats on the acceptance!

I think you were in my inteview group (Oct 5th)...were you the nice lady that came in with a pink top?...I think initially everyone looked shocked that somebody did not wear a suit/something dark but when we went around and you told us that the airline had lost you luggage we all felt really bad...anyway congrats on the acceptance...if you were the lady I am thinking of are you going to DMU?
That's me - yup!Haven't decided yet between UMDNJ or DMU, and still have a few others to hear from. I loved DMU, the students, staff, faculty, and fellow interviewees, in spite of the crazy experience getting there and feeling totally out of place b/c of the missing suit!! (Even though you were all so nice, it's hard not to feel completely strange in that situation!) Maybe we'll be classmates in August!

Awww, Ortho is a girl! It's so hard to figure out gender from a message board, unless the name is obvious! How's the decision making coming along?
I know what you mean, though. I think many people on SDN get surprised when they find out about people's true identities...!!
But okay so - is there an implication in there that I'm having a tough time deciding which school to choose b/c I'm a girl?!! 😉 Just kiddin'. Sort of...!
I sadly gave both a deposit for now. Just buying more time. Now I can't make fun of HOD since I landed up doing the same thing he did!!![]()
Now I finally feel comfortable disclosing my transgender status!😛 Like Buffalo Bill in Silence of the lambs!
Oh, hell no!! Sorry if it read like that!!! I would never make a disrespectul statement like that.
But does yours bite - like mine does?? 😛
LOL! I'm glad I'm not your mailman!
I actually put this same picture at the end of a cell biology presentation on some stupid project we did on DNA fingerprinting/gel electrophoresis to "catch a criminal"-no one laughed at all!! It was quite embarrassingly uncomfortable. Perhaps clothes would have helped.
