Hey you all, I wanted to put myself on the chopping block so to speak, really I wanted to ask for some advice in my situation:
I'm a non trad 25 year old URM
My Overall GPA 3.06 & Science GPA 2.80
I calculated the AADSAS values and they both average to 3.o for overall and science AADSAS GPAs.
I have 624 shadowing hours since 2011 and 2000 volunteer hours since 2009.
I also have four GREAT LORs, 2 professors (B, B+), a dentist who's rooting for me and my boss.
I also have worked full time since freshman year of college in 2006.
Unfortunately due to a very busy summer, I had to re-schedule my DAT to September 7th, but I plan of submitting my AADSAS next week. DAT studying has been going very well though.
Also, I have about 11 W's on my complete academic transcript.
8 of the Ws were because I voluntarily withdrew out of an SMP during both the Fall 2010 and 2011 semesters. These are due to terrible family situations that I covered within my AADSAS application.
Since spring 2012 I've been enrolled in informal post-bacc course work, but honestly it’s been less than stellar.
Having to work 40+ hrs a week plus be co-primary caregiver to my grandma have resulted in a single D, a B- and three C's in a post bacc that was supposed to raise my GPA!
For that reason, I don't even have an upward trend; I've honestly been averaging Bs.
Fortunately though, since the summer began I've only been working part time and in April my grandma moved in with my aunt in California and I've pulled a 3.89 semester GPA, and I've been accepted into an SMP for this fall with no familial or full time employment issues!
I know of pre-dents on SDN (and let’s be honest many of them are URMs) whom have matriculated with low stats and large EC hours even after late AADSAS applications.
But I also know a lot of non URMs with stats like mine who couldn't get accepted after applying for multiple cycles until after they earned a 3.5+ in an SMP.
I'm a devout Christian and I always figured that I'd have to rely on God to get in (even if I was first batch, 4.0 GPA & 30 across the DAT, etc.)
But I'm just asking how realistic it is to get in with my history and stats?
I don't doubt that God can get me in with my ugly stats.
I don't doubt that God can get me in with a September late AADSAS application date.
But I don’t know if this is a test of faith. I would hate to lose the chance to get in this cycle because I made the mistake to doubt that God could help me get in and so decided to wait another year before applying.
But I also can appreciate taking my time with the DAT and giving myself 2+ months to study for it while doing well in the SMP (this is literally the first time I've entered school part time in my entire collegiate career).
I’m in a classic Catch-22 and its left me so very confused 🙁
Are there schools that would give me the time of day? If I were to pull 20+ across the DAT, would I have a reasonable chance this cycle?
I don't mean to trouble you, but I'd appreciate your insight and advice.
And please feel free to PM me if you need to . I appreciate it.
Thanks guys.
