same. i'm on hold in a lot of schools, no interviews yet.. is this a hopeful sign or an automatic bye bye?
 
I got mine too. first thing back from any med school. sheesh
 
why is it infamous? does GWU do this a lot and end up not interviewing these candidates?
 
ughh. count me in. i cant take this.
 
Yup, I just got the e-mail too. This really hurt because I got interviewed two years ago and was even on the waitlist. Dang...
 
I got a "hold" notification as well: I guess my 36Q MCAT and 3.98 GPA wasnt good enough for GW.
 
diana- we have very similar stats. maybe they just dont like us.
 
Also got the hold. Damn, that's two schools. I wonder if it would help to send letters of interest or intent?
 
I got the hold too. This whole freaking process is hurting my brain.

We do! But I like our well rounded 30's. Haha 😀 At least we both have gotten some interviews...
 
dont want to waste money going out there again ... plenty of other schools that are WAY better tahn GW
 
just got my hold letter too!! *sigh* second hold so far
 
hehe funny how so many of us just got the hold...
 
i think the bajillion mcat dates are causing the schools to get flooded with applications so early in the process.
 
No honestly, do they do this to applicants that are too good for them?

it says in the e-mail "As the AMCAS application, secondary application, and letters of recommendation are quite detailed, we do not require any further information or documentation from you at this time."

maybe a bad idea to send anything else.
 
I just got it as well. At least it's not a rejection. But it sounds like maybe it's as good as....

i think its a good way to say, "if we need ppl at the end of the cycle... you're it. till then, bye."
 
haha, just got the hold message today too.
i had emailed them today asking about scheduling an interview b/c i am already going to be in d.c. for georgetown interview. they responded saying my application was under review or something like that but they would note the dates i was going to be in d.c in my file.... then a few hours later i get the hold email. oh well, it appears i am in good company.
 
doesn't GW have the highest # of applicants out of any school?
 
Yup, I got my hold e-mail today, too. Btw, why is GWU so popular? I just kind of picked it randomly.

when i was at GW last week, the admissions lady said that they had already received 13000 applications, so i don't really think that they will go over your stuff again unless you give them a reason to.

that's how it works with the waitlist people aren't usually given an acceptance until they get something showing your continued interest.
 
Is it even worth it to try and send additional letters of interest after being place on hold at GW, or any other school, to try and get an interview invite?

Wow, even more popular than last year. I too got the hold message just now. Does anyone know if they have actually straight-up rejected anyone as of right now? I am not sure that they have...and if so does everyone "get placed on hold " at least during this part of the season? Has anyone who previously applied there succesfully been removed off off the hold list for an interview? A lot of people are asking this but nobody seems to know....

I for one am planning to send an update letter because it has been 4 months since my AMCAS submission and I have some publications etc that have gone through in that time.
 
Today's lesson for next year: Submit your AMCAS on the 6th of June and every secondary you get the day you receive it.
This process is only getting more and more competitive. Soon enough, getting into an American school will become as hard as getting into a med school in Ontario.
GPA 3.80, MCAT : 38 M.......sorry you are not competitive enough...
 
I got the GW Hold email also!! 13000 applications, and it's only september??? What does that say about our chances this year??

That explains the e-mail's vague comment that "the applicant pool has increased signficantly."

Ah well... did we really expect anything else from a school that is flooded with applications?

I'm more annoyed about my SUNY Upstate hold.

I got the GW hold today too! 🙁 My application was complete on Sept. 10th. When was yours complete? I'm guessing that we're on hold b/c our applications were not completed earlier?

Probably not. Mine was complete in July and I got the hold today.

not necessarily true. i was complete before august.
 
On hold as well. My file was complete mid-July so I guess applying early didn't help me here...I really like DC, so it's a bit disappointing.
 
I was completed july 25th and haven't received anything yet...Do I assume a snail mail rejection?
