I have an interview at G.Wash in 2 weeks and I'm trying to deal with hotels/flights right now and i'm having so much trouble with this.

Does anyone have any info that will help me?

For flights, which airport is better to fly in to, dulles or reagan? and does it really matter? (gosh those tickets are expensive from so cal!!)

and hotels, WHOA on pricing! I understand it's DC and all, but STILL, my goodness. SO it's 2 am EST right now and apparently those hotels don't work at night or something! I called a whole bunch of hotels that are listed on the website and they janitors were picking up telling me they can't help tonight and to call the next morning. Is that how all of Wash is? Cuz I know here in Cali, hotels work 24/7, and you can reserve any time, kinda like vegas but i guess that's not how things work over there. (it was hilarious, they're like ma'am, can you call back tmrw morning? 😕 LOL) and the only hotel that did pick up said their rate was 189/night although on the gwash website it said rates start at 99 for interviewees. When I asked about that he said he had no idea about any special rates 🙄

Any recommendations on cheap hotels? and Can someone please tell me how to get from the airport (probably dulles) to any hotel in that area? I can't rent a car cuz i'm not 21 and I know NOTHING about the public transportation system. How does the metro system work and how much is it etc?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE to anyone who can help

(im such a premed dealing with this stuff on the night of my birthday 😛 lol shouldn't i be out or something??)

sorry cant help you, but happy birthday! 🙂

hey coco,

congrats on the GW interview. reagan is a much better airport to fly into--it's the only one that has direct metro access. i am sure that there are a bunch of hotels around the metro stops in d.c., but i don't know the particulars because i live just outside dc. if you want, i can look up some names, too.

but definitely fly into and out of reagan. that's what i always do. and you'll be fine without a car in d.c. the metro goes everywhere.

Argonana thank you SO much I really appreciate your help! I didn't know about the metro...that link is so helpful (and wow the trip is so cheap!) I'm so excited about getting on a metro (i know, im a dork lol). but thanks a bunch, ill look into hotel details tomorrow.

thanks for the bday wishes jtank!

Hey Coco, I just had my interview at GWU. For the metro, you'll want to take the blue line toward Largo Town Center and get off at the Foggy Bottom stop. The Foggy Bottom station is literally outside of the GWU hospital entrance. For hotels, I stayed at the River Inn the first night (it's 2 blocks from the school). But I got a really great deal on the room (from sidestep.com), because otherwise it's over $200 a night. The second night I stayed at the Radisson right next to the airport. That was $70 something a night and it only takes about 10-15 minutes to get to GWU. If you want to book at Radisson, you should do it at the Radisson website because they have great discounts there. Good luck and don't worry because the interviews are really laidback.

ntc THANK YOU SO MUCH. you guys are seriously the greatest!

would you recommend staying at the radisson both nights since it's cheaper and just take the metro to GWU the morning of the interview? or do you think it's better to stay somewhere closer to the university for the first night?

the interview day at gw is a breeze. you'll interview with a faculty member and a student. both interviews are pretty short (mine were both about 35 minutes) and they're very relaxed - mainly trying to get to know you. the facilities are really nice and you get to see just about everything. also, what i really liked was that the students came in (i'd guess around 10 of them) and candidly answered any questions that people had. i think you guys will enjoy your visits. best of luck.
