GWU Waitlist

Is anyone as discouraged as me about the GWU waitlist yet? I know it's still early, but I just can't stand that I come home every day and there's no phone call for me. Since there's been some movement already and I haven't been called, I already feel like giving up. 🙁

Anybody out there know how their waitlist system works? With so many people on it, they must have it ranked somehow ahead of time I'm thinking. I wonder how long it typically takes them to have their class filled and settled...

Supposedly it's not ranked. Make sure that you've sent updates, and a letter of intent. The best way I've heard waitlist pulling described is like this: schools have an idea of the kind of class that they want...dynamics, experiences, backgrounds etc. When someone from the formed class drops off, they look for someone similar to fill that place. This may not be how it works for every school, and it definitely helps to let them know you love them, but it may come down to whether or not you fit what they are looking for that day. I knew a friend who got pulled off the GW waitlist as he was driving to SLU. He just kept driving to DC. There is hope.

Do not lose hope!!! GW pulls people off the waitlist until the end of August. Some of my classmates were contacted a week before orientation. I was accepted off the waitlist during the first week in June- just days after I sent them a letter of intent.

This is what you need to do
1. Write another letter of intent. ESPECIALLY if you were accepted at other schools (they want to seal you in).

2. State what you've been doing over the past year.

3. State your goals and best personal attributes- and how they fit with the mission statement of the school.

4. Mention how much you love the idea of the Practice of Medicine course, and how you like the idea of close physician and patient contact early on

5. Fax the letter directly to their office

Don't lose hope -- the list is definitely starting to move.
Just got off their Wait List 5/20.

Hang in there and definitely continue with the Letters of Intent, updates, additional LORs, etc.

not to mention that another deposit is due on June 1- that's when things get a bit more definitive

How long did it take you guys to get your contract from them? I was notified late in the afternoon on 5/22 of my acceptance and still have not seen the blessed paperwork as of yet!

I got my contract about 3 days later, i was waiting for something in writing to feel like i realllly was in ya know! Congratas on getting in medical!!! Hey phinicky what deposit is due june 1?? on my contract it says the tuition deposit is due june 20th? shoooot i hope i didnt miss something yikes! congrats guys! im soo excited!

Hmmm....Maybe the holiday held mine up, but if I don't get it in the mail on Monday, I will be giving them a call. I would hate it if something like that got lost in the mail. Thanks, Ramoray! By the way, did it come via certified mail or snail mail? I am getting a little worried about it.

hey medical dont worry! it came snail mail.. it might have been 4 days i wasnt SURE that it was 3 that was just what i remembered. I was thinking the same thing like all i could think was i WANT somethign in writing!! the kicker was they only gave me like a week to get the contract back and with memorial day it happend to be this last tuesday. i had to same day fedex it and all and it did get there just on time i callled at 4pm that day and it had jus tarrived! big time whew for me there! so make sure to get that contract in asap!! congrats!!

Hi,

Congratulations to all those who got in off the waitlist. I was wondering if any of you before hand received a call about updating your file (grades wise). I got a call late in May about this and haven't heard anything since. I guess this is a bad sign since the movement on the list recently seems to be significant and i'm still waiting.
