Hi guys i have a question. I have applied to dental schools in america and am looking into applying to medical schools there as well. the thing is i have had a transcript notation for academic misconduct in the past but it has been over for a long time now. my question to you guys is should i mention it to the school admission people or should i not mention it cuz it is off the records. Maybe i can say it was a bad patch in my life and not get to specific on the issue. But if they find out while i am attending there school i might be liable for some explanation as to why i didnt tell them before please advice me guys.let me know what you guys think on the issue. Or should i change my career and maybe go into the corporate world.

I thought there was a section on your application which required you to explain any former allegations of misconduct.

What did you do?

What did you do?

I was caught for plagarism in a paper. I was wondering if this would hamper my chances in obtaining a residency, since they didnt even look at your university marks on ur med school marks. But would this come back to haunt me or is it all okay after i get in to some school. Let me know what you guys think.

Since the notation is on your transcript, the admissions committee may see it. So, if you get an interview and they ask you about it there, be sure to have a good solid explanation of what happened, and also explain how you have learned from your mistake and what you have done to ensure that it will never happen again.
Depending on how long ago the episode of plagiarism occurred, and provided that you've had a clean track record since then, and have done well academically since then, the committee may end up not focusing too much on the incident. There aren't any guarantees, but it is a possibility. Once you do get into med school, and it becomes time for you to apply for residency, the time that you plagiarized should become a thing of the past provided you haven't committed any more academic dishonesty in med school.

Just to add to this, it will be a non-issue once you are accepted to medical school because residencies will focus exclusively on med school performance.

University info means little after medical school.

Wouldnt the residency application or residency interviews ask about any issues in the past or can i just refrain from stating it since i will be only handing in med school marks. I just wanted to make sure if i plunge into the career this will not come back to hunt me, my marks are decent.

just want to add i am thankful for ur guys replies.

I have not crossed that bridge, so I cannot give you a sure answer. But considering that the medical school accepts you knowing your university past, the residency interviews would probably not rehash non-criminal issues in your past.

BUT they may give you an application that has the typical "have you ever been punished or censured for ethical reasons" question and if they find out that you lied, it may come back to bite you.

Maybe some of the residents would know the answer.

I doubt they'll ask him/her about non-criminal issues that happened in undergrad when it comes time to apply for residency. In the event they do, though, the OP should be prepared to explain how he/she plagiarized in undergrad, and how he/she has matured since then. But, like I said, by the time residency interviews roll around, I doubt it will even come up, considering most residency programs only ask for your med school transcripts, and not your undergrad ones.

Should i mention this issue to the committe if asked or avoid it if not asked? I mean it is off the records now. It was a mistake i paid the time and wana move on. Once i get it it will be an issue of the past.
