Hello everybody, I am a student who had to remediate a portion of an M2 class this summer. Passed it but problem is that it took all but 30 days of my dedicated for COMLEX 1 away. No idea how to approach this and what topics to go with now. No way I can do all of B&B in this time. It is too long. I am already a weak student. I am not going to bother with the Step 1 because that is even a harder exam

My current plan is

  1. Finish all of Pathoma 1x
  2. Sketchy Micro with pepper
  3. Sketchy Pharm with pepper
  4. 80-100 UWorld questions a day
  5. Cram OMM last week
Does that seem like a decent approach. Anyone else had few days and weak foundation but passed. I’m in panic mode right now on what I should focus on. Has anyone with 30 days with a weak foundation been able to pass aswell?

Uworld >>>>> everything else

Do practice tests every week to make sure you are passing and to build testing stamina

Pathoma ch 1-3, sketchy micro/pharm, pathoma ch (weaknesses you find from doing uworld/practice tests)

Anki 100 high yield anatomy and other high yield decks.

Skip B&B, low key overkill.

You can realistically cram OMM in like 1 day. Know the heavy hitters, rest are kinda low yield and you will probably miss anyways even if you spent >1 week on it.

First I would recommend that you take a COMSAE or some other baseline exam so you know what your weaknesses are and where your baseline knowledge is. From there the HY focus for COMLEX would be: OMM, MSK/anatomy, Neuro, Micro & Pharm, then move on to things like GI, Cardio, Renal, Endo, etc. COMLEX isn’t biochem heavy like step, but I would know biostats & ethics.

You can easily improve 150 points on COMSAE in a month if you’re starting from a low baseline and hitting the highest yield subjects.

I know the prevailing advice is uworld is king, but if you’re only taking COMLEX then consider combank because it has language very similar to COMLEX. This is from classmates who have recently tested.

Can you ask to pull an elective and use that extra time to study? Have you asked for extra study time? I'm worried that your school would be willing to throw you into a shark-filled pool when you're so at-risk!

This. A thousand times this. My alma mater would have made you give up an elective or vacation to study (and while I don’t love a lot of their policies, that one actually is a good one). You should see if it’s an option.

I agree with this. If you fail comlex one that's going to shut alot of doors on you. Try your best to convince your school to let you delay taking it.

So I asked the school and they essentially pair a 4 week independent time with an academic pause I was to receive later next year. I am still hoping I can pull of a passing grade with the aforementioned strategie, but if my last COMPSAE is not near 500, I will just use the 8 weeks the school is willing to give me.

Thank you for all the above advice from everyone.

IMO the highest yield topics on COMLEX is micro, omm, pharm, Neuro, and MSK.

There’s a lot of feelings about COMLEX being terribly written but I didn’t really think so. I agree that COMLEX tends to ask vague questions with vague answer choices but the test writers are trying to see if you are able to understand the jist of what is being asked. The trick to answering these questions is to look for the “least incorrect answer choice” as opposed to the “most correct answer choice”.
