Hi y`all,

I know that several undergraduate schools tend to "disregard" your freshmen year GPA, such as my school (University of Michigan), but do any medical schools do this as well? The reason I ask is that my GPA shot up from a 3.35 freshmen year GPA to a 3.65 sophomore year GPA (cumulative 3.5), and I am hoping that there are some medical schools that take this into account. Mostly I'm just worried that I'm not going to get into medical school due to my bad start.

Well, they're all going to see an upward trend as a positive but ultimately, they're seeing AMCAS' cGPA and sGPA results first, so they're going to screen or at least make initial judgments largely based on that. Beyond that, it's hard to know which schools might weigh your later GPA more strongly. We know many DO schools often do this, but I'm less sure as to which MD schools do. I might suggest looking at the spreadsheet and seeing which schools your 3.5ish GPA would be competitive at. You also have plenty of time to bring it up your next 1-2 yrs...
