Hand surgery fellowship and Matching into Plastics

Does anyone know if your chances of matching in Plastic surgery (Independent Route) is any better if you do a hand fellowship prior to applying to Plastics?? Anyone have first hand experience?

It may improve your chances of getting a spot. You will be one of the few who would still consider applying for a plastic surgery fellowship after 5 years of general surgery and a hand surgery fellowship. I don't know if you're aware that starting next year (2010) most of the plastic surgery programs, if not all, will become a 3 year plastic surgery independent program. Hand surgery is a lot of fun. I think you will enjoy hand surgery as much as plastic surgery.
