With internship starting soon, I feel like I need a security blanket to carry with me. I was looking at pocketbooks in the bookstore. Two looked good:

Washington Manual's Surgery Survival Guide
On Call Surgery

Anyone have a preference between these two? Other suggestions? Thanks.

Though I haven't looked @ on-call much, I am a great fan of the Wash U book. It's quite concise and to the point with very practical advice and very little superfluous background material.

Edit: I'm referring to Goodman.

Pilot Doc (or anyone else), are you referring to the Washington Manual Surgery Survival Guide by Goodman or the Washington Manual of Surgery by Doherty?

Thanks!

I acutally liked the On Call for surgery. That's what I got. Don't use it much anymore, though.

the Mont Reid Handbook?
I found it had all the information I needed on my surgery rotations, a few useful diagrams. But what do I know ? 😕
I'm just a transitional intern 😀

Hans.

Mount Reid - definitely a good book although it doesn't have the day to day patient care management stuff for interns like the Washington Manual (ie, how to write for transfusions, heparin drips, diets, etc.) Mount Reid is great for procedures, indications, complications, etc.
