I feel disgruntled by the aura of negativity/bitterness that seems to emanate from some physicians. If you are a physician and LOVE your work... Let me hear it!

i'm not sure how many physicians you'll find here in a pre-med forum. maybe you should try the one where the physicians are expected to hang out...

If you roll over to the Psych forum you can read quite a bit about how much folks love their jobs.

Similar vibe in the Peds forum, but its not quite as active a forum so not as obviously noticeable.

The PM&R folks seem quite content with their jobs, but seem to have some frustrations with some aspects not directly related to clinical care such as politics in their professional leadership and the fact that training programs aren't very uniform.

If you want to see some jaded/angry/bitter folks, I dare you to read the Anesthesia forum 😱

The resident and practicing physician forums are for folks in those stages to discuss issues, not for pre-med questions, so I ask the OP not to repost this elsewhere. There are plenty of residents and attending physicians who read other forums. On top of that, cross-posting isn't permitted on the forums.

Better yet, I encourage the OP to read the various forums in the residency section to see what people are saying about their own areas. Honest assessment of being a physician will be much more useful than candy coating things anyways.

In answer to the question: yes, I like my job, but I also have to deal with a lot of crap that I don't like and some days I'm quite frustrated and disgruntled.

Yeah, no need to repost this in the actual forum. Just search through them for when previous premeds have posted. The forums I mentioned earlier (Psych, Peds, PM&R ) all have alot of really helpful responses to premed's questions.

Maybe the more grumpy fields have forums that aren't so receptive 😉

Add oncologists of all stripes onto the "happy physician" list...oddly enough. And EM seems to both love and hate their job at the same time.

sorry i didn't make it clear 🙁. i just meant the op should be looking around in a forum for physicians, not that they should post their question there. which is what others have said, just more clearly than i did.

Every single EM doc and residents I've talked to said it's the best job ever. And yes we did have the patient population discussion... the goods outweigh the bad.

Of course if you wanna see colorful commentaries just hop on over to pandamd.

Haha, sounds like the majority of jobs. I feel like this is what most doctors would say. It's a job. Hopefully they like it, which is why they went into it. But same as most jobs, there's crap that's not so fun.

Or the blog. www.medicalcorpse.com
Personally, I love it ;p

Hey, thanks for the link. I've spent the last half hour reading through it (I really like the pictures section and will be clicking through the others soon as well). I should probably get back to work...

He makes very good points, and I love all the examples of taxpayer waste on religious propaganda. :smack:

OP, don't read if you want to hear from a happy doc!
