So I’m looking in workforce scheduler looking at my store schedule and I noticed that a few(3 or 4) floaters have “terminated” all over their schedule. Looks like they were all terminated the same day too based on what I can tell? Anyone hear of pharmacist layoffs? Or was it just coincidence that all of these people got fired the same day?

Related to this...if you are a per diem pharmacist and your hours got reduced to zero (not fired), can you still file for unemployment?

I wonder if this is a way for the big chains to avoid paying unemployment benefits.

You can still file for unemployment if you got zero hours and are still active with the company. I know coal miners that did this, anyway.

The store managers I worked with would always talk about this. I agree that they need floaters but I don’t see them firing people at once. They’re more likely to force people to quit by scheduling them for overnight shifts, not giving them enough hours or only sending them to crappy stores. Lawsuits are the last thing they want to deal with.

In New York, you can file based on not having enough work, don't know about other states.

I do wonder if that just full-timers who were cut, it doesn't make sense to cut per-diems since they get no benefits and no regular schedule anyway... they are basically your as-needed labor pool, already not paid when not needed.

It’s all part of the plan to get rid of every pharmacist who isn’t a new grad so that they can start paying pharmacists $25-30/hr.

Step 1: Force tenured/full time pharmacists to take per diem/floater positions.

Step 2: Give per diem/floater positions fewer and fewer hours so they will eventually quit on their own.

Step 3: Bring in freshly minted, desperate new grads with $200k+ loans to replace displaced PIC/staff pharmacists at $25-30/hr.

Step 4: Rinse and repeat Step 1 In 3-5 years when those pharmacists make >$35/hr.
