I was writing is to inquire about the security of being a resident at Harbor-UCLA. I have heard rumors that the county hospitals in the greater LA area are in serious financial distress. I found two articles on the net which confirms this. Here are the links:

What do you guys think of all of this? I wonder what will happen to the individuals who match into the Harbor-UCLA IMED residency program, only to see the hospital possibly close during their residency training? What will happen to their residency spots? Apparently, 2 of 6 county hospitals in the LA area have already shut down due to financial stresses.

The threat of the county system closing down in LA is real and happens every year when they are reconsidering the budget.
California, as you may all know from all the recall election coverage, is in serious financial crisis. I would be very pointed about asking the PD's about this situation. I am sure they will be willing to be explicit about it.That being said, Harbor UCLA is still one of the best places in Los Angeles to train.

Very interesting point bariume. I am going to interview there in the near future and it would be interesting to see what the PD has to say about the issue...Another interesting point is that there are better programs outside of cali that we all can get into, yet we're all flocking to cali to settle for a lower tier school. And for what? i guess it's the weather...

it goes beyond the weather....

it's manifest destiny.
