Hard to get into programs

Hi,
Just wanted to confirm something that I already knew:
These are some pretty hard to get into programs, right? 🙂

Your question is pretty relative.
Unfortunately, (and as you may know), your scores on the GRE are pretty essential to make it past the first cut.
So, if you have two people, one with great stats, one with average stats, but both match perfectly with the prof, the one with the better stats has a better shot. Period - that's just how it is. However, the one with the poorer stats (still most likely will need to be above 1200), but who is a better match will do better than the person with great stats but who is a poor match.Of course, once you make it to the interview, that matters very little. What I'm saying applies mostly to the interview selection process. At that point you're all equal.

It's possible that at a lower-tier program (and I'm using this term loosely since there really is no such thing for solid PhD Clinical programs) somebody with lower stats gets selected whereas the person with the better stats doesn't - simply because the research match is poor.
