Every time someone bumps this thread now I have a heart attack. Did someone hear? You're killing me!

And now you did it for me!! Augh. I won't even be here for the week of the 19th, if they really do come out next Friday and arrive sometime that week...Double augh!! I should just cancel spring break plans...

Jesus! This thread is full of people who are freaking out! Relax my peeps, if you interviewed at Harvard you are going to be a doctor . . . probably better than most! Turn your brains off!
Go out and party L.A. style.

got the rej letter today. thanks for telling me you have 5500 applicants, you tools.

He was pre-interview, and he's been accepted by Duke, so I'm not going to shed any tears for Spatula. 😛 Congrats on Duke and Chicago!!

Anyone have success with the financial aid login? Given the April 16 priority deadline for accepted applicants, access should be granted anytime now... by chance, has someone called the financial aid office to find out when said students will be able to login? 😀

lol this is a good idea. so far, everybody's been asking about when the letters will be mailed, but nobody has asked when the lucky few will be able to log into the financial aid website. this sounds like a new mission for you brave kids out there.

Will you shed any tears for me? I wasn't accepted by Duke 🙁

After that acceptance letter from Harvard you will say, "Duke? Duke WHO?" 😀

No luck with financial aid login as of 10:00 PST, March 12, 2007🙁

Gah, even though I keep trying, I always wonder whether I can't login because they haven't added admitted students to the server yet, or if I've simply been rejected😛

Probably just means that they've fixed the loophole. I wouldn't read too much into it...at least until somebody has success. I refuse to try until I hear of someone getting in.

well, my spring break is next week, which means i'll be home stalking the mailman every day. until then though, it seems that every one of my teachers got together and conspired to make this the most horrible week of my life... why do they always wait to assign everything on the week before spring break?!?! ****ing ****, man!

anyways, i was just wondering if i'm the only one in here that checks this thread more often than i check my email.

Yeah or I could get the axe and then they'll be like: "Hednej, Hednej WHO?"

I've almost forgotten that I'm waiting for Harvard. I interviewed in September, but seeing this thread in the last few weeks has brought my nervousness back to the surface.

In any case, it's going to be hard to feel bad if I get one of the ~700 post-interview rejections coming soon.

Good luck everyone!

damn edinger, your mdapps is nasty!!! (in a good way!)... i'd be surprised if you weren't accepted.

would you attend harvard if accepted?

Well, technically it's not a "loophole." If you're accepted, you need to be able to access your financial aid online. Since they don't know when each person will receive their letter (people in Boston may receive it same day) they have to keep the financial aid website open the day they send out letters.

I'm hoping you're right. Hahaha, I'm all for finding out as soon as possible.

I don't know Senor Villa, a good financial aid package from Hopkins or a scholarship from WashU would definitely make it a tough decision.

In any case, I'm just happy I'm going to be a doctor in the near future.

But seriously, 10,000 faculty? That's nasty. (in a good way)

Let's do it.

I don't care how much longer the Duke secondary was than the Harvard one.

FYI, don't drink coffee from an industrial maker until the entire batch is ready. Apparently the coffee that comes out at the beginning of the brew cycle is MUCH stronger.

I need coffee that actually WORKS.
Caffeine only affects my peripheral nervous system (i.e. I tremble so much I can hardly hold my mug) but not my central nervous system (i.e. I fall asleep over my newly brewed dark coffee). Heck, I'm already unsure about my chances of surviving residency thanks to this.

I revealed to one of my interviewers that I a bit of an insomniac, and he said it was a good quality to have😛

I was accepted there😛

Did you mention this at your Harvard interview?

that's like saying there's a loophole on the loophole!

i know it's a longshot, but would any of you care to help me write a 15 page paper on the patterns of sexual selection in the Golden-winged warbler?

look at this way, it'll help pass the time while you wait for the mail to come!

I'll pass on that one. My obsession with winning my office march madness challenge will help me pass the time, I hope.

Anyone have any good first round upset picks?

Take Davidson over Maryland and NMSU over Texas (kidding about the second one).

By the way, our MDapps are eerily similar...

I have the Davidson Maryland upset too. Also have Illinois over Vtech and ODU over Butler.

Those are good ones. I like Maryland, and while Butler is overrated I think they will beat ODU. I have Winthrop over ND right now, and I'm not sure if I should put many others.

To answer someone's earlier q, I think the Harvard revisit is usu. the last weekend of April or first weekend of May ...? Could someone confirm/correct this?

Hmm, am I the only one with parents who aren't so ecstatic about harvard? They said, ok great, you got an interview there. But since you have a full-rider somewhere else (b/c it's MD-PhD), it's a no brainer in their opinion to take that. They don't understand, the interdisciplinary research is so much stronger through the harvard-mit hst program, sigh ... plus, i seriously wouldn't mind the debt. I may not earn much in academic medicine or public health in the future, but will be enough to pay off the loans in a few yrs right? The 4-yr experience will be one of those priceless things in life ...

Now I suppose I could postpone this argument with them for another few weeks, since I won't learn of the hms decision anytime soon 🙄

It's funny, my mum's the exact opposite... shuck MD-PhD and go to Harvard if accepted... what to do???

Have you picked a winner yet?

I'm leaning towards TAMU-CC, but you always have to watch out for Oral Roberts.

Heh, I only applied MD so I don't have a tantalizing full ride to consider, but my mom is doubly-biased in favor of Harvard. Not only is it Harvard, but it's also the school closest to home. 😉

I wouldn't think of an MD/PhD as a full ride to medical school. Remember that you have 4 years of graduate study slapped into the middle of your MD. If you specialize, you can easily make up the money you would have spent on tuition in those 4 early years of practice.

The purpose of the MD/PhD is to make medical science a more attractive possibility because medical scientists make less money than doctors who spend most or all of their time seeing patients.

Many MSTP students have advised me to avoid the program unless you really love research, in which case it's perfect!

Heh....and that's *exactly* why I only applied MD. I enjoy research, and find it interesting, but it's not a burning love. 🙂

I'm leaning towards Georgetown. I think Florida will win, but if I pick them then I can't win my pool.

Oral Roberts is definitely a good sleeper.

what about ohio state or texas. durand or however you spell it is absoulutely rediculous. he has no business being in college basketball.

It's funny, I loved research enough to start looking at MD-PhD programs around sophomore yr... but during this application process I've talked to enough people to start having self doubt...

Now I'm almost hoping for a sign (like a rejection from Harvard)... terrible I know but "I'm a sign type of girl" :scared:

He's great in college. I think he is going to get bullied in the NBA. He looks anorexic.

Texas may beat UNC, but they can't take Gtown. OSU will go down to Texas A+M.

Well for financial reasons, I couldn't attend an MD program without a scholarship cos I'm a foreign student, dont qualify for most finaids, and not one of the rich ones either...

Except for the anorexic statement, i have to agree with you. I think Kevin Durant is a beast and he will probably be a beast everywhere. I mean, he's not nearly as skinny as Chris Bosh was and he's doing fine in the league.

I picked Oral Roberts to go to the Sweet Sixteen. Also watch Stanford. They just got one of their best players back from injury, and they have twin 7-footers (Fresno products) who are starting to come into their own.

Texas is going to be a really popular dark horse championship pick, but I think A & M should be too. Have you seen Law hit threes? Rediculous.

Also watch out for my boy the baby-faced Stephen Curry. He'll probably get manhandled by Maryland physically, but he's a beast from beyond the arc.

I keep on checking this thread for Harvard news, and what do I get? basketball! 😴
