As I'm filling out the application, I'm finding many questions that confuse me.

They want me to "Compute my GPA according to AMCAS for undergraduate scores". I've never heard of doing that, but I understand you use their formula, multiply by the credit hours and then divide by the total number of credit hours to compute the GPA. They want "SCIENCE", "NON-SCIENCE" and "TOTAL". Firstly, I'm applying for a post-bacc, I haven't TAKEN any science classes! Secondly Non-science, wouldn't that be everything else? Like every single class i've taken? And wouldn't that be the same as total?

Another thing, they want me to list science and mathematic courses. Do psychology classes (natural sciences) count? What about psychological statistics?

Thirdly, I'm supposed to check the box of I want to become a degree candidate. If so, specify the program "ALB" or "ALM". What do these mean!? As far as I was concerned I'm applying for the Diploma in Premedical Studies program!

I really appreciate the time you guys put on this amazing resource (student doctor network) thanks so much!

Science = Biology Chem Physics Maths (BCPM)
Non-science = everything not above
Total = as you stated to calc using grade hours

Remember thats all above HS level work - so if you took a CC class one summer, or took a college class in HS and got credit, they all factor into your AMCAS GPA. Its not only the place that gave you your undergrad degree

So even if I've taken a statistics course (psychological statistics)... only ONE "math" class, they want it? I guess I feel weird putting down literally ONE class for them.

About your third point, you are not applying for a degree, so you leave those boxes unchecked.

Also, since your post seems kind of urgent, I assume you are trying to submit the application by the August 31 deadline and register for classes this fall? Since you haven't taken any of the prereqs yet, you're probably aiming to enroll in med school in the fall of 2014. That means your application isn't technically due until August 31 of next year, so you still have plenty of time. You can still go ahead and register for and take classes without being formally accepted into HCP yet.

Hope this helps and good luck with your application.

Also, make sure you use the GPA scale used by AMCAS. It could be different from the one your school uses. For example, UMass calculated my A- as a 3.67, whereas AMCAS calculated it as a 3.7. It probably doesn"t make much of a difference, but who knows. Maybe they'll check your grades closely.

Really? I am out of umass. good to know.

I'm out of UMass too...and they calculated my A-s at 3.7.... I'm not sure where this is all coming from, unless they've changed it since I left

I don't know. I just went by what the registrar told me. It didn't really make a difference in the end.

Have a look on the back of your transcript - it will say there, at least mine does

It will say if the courses are AMCAS eligible?
No lol
Way to take a quote completely out of context

It will say what an A- is equal to

And whats AMCAS eligible? If its not a HS class, its eligible...

I'm sorry, I'm a little unclear with your reply. I understand the glide year extends my app to med school an extra year, and the program is going to last anywhere from 12-18 months. How can I register and take classes without being accepted?

it's open registration.

1) go to the website
2) register
3) .....?
4)profit!
