hey,
i'm sure this has been asked many times but my search was unfruitful.....so, do we have to apply for np and hst separately? When we select the md for harvard on the amcas, are we automatically considered for both? I saw that some people do interviews for both, but how does that work exactly?....also, how is the secondary for harvard--is it diff for the two programs?
...just a bit confused....

Thanks! 😀

1) Apply to Harvard MD on AMCAS
2) Sometime in the fall (probably later than most schools) you will get snail mail telling you the URL for the secondary
3) On the online secondary, there is an option for you to click on NP, HST, or both. If you decide to do HST, there are extra essays that you must complete regarding your research (NP has no extra essays)
4) Within several months, you will receive interview invites for whichever program(s) they decided to interview you for...
5) In March, you will be able to check on the Harvard financial aid page to see if you can log in and if you are an accepted applicant (at least that's what happened this year)... By mid to late March you should receive a letter letting you know which program(s) you were accepted, rejected and waitlisted at...

It's part of the same application, but there's an additional essay you have to write for HST. Selecting Harvard on AMCAS will put you in the running for both programs. In fact, there's only one secondary. The only difference is, as I said before, an extra essay on the secondary if you wish to be considered for HST.

As far as interviewing, both programs hand out interviews separately. If you're lucky enough to get interviews from both programs, they'll try to coordinate the dates (HST interviews on Tuesdays, I believe, and so they'll try to give you a Monday Tuesday setup). The interviews ARE totally separate, though, with different offices handling each group of applicants. I only interviewed for HST, and the only time I met regular HMS applicants was during lunch.

Thanks! that def clears it up 🙂
