I desparatly want to know how is this program in Harvard. I heard some negative comments about it, some thing like they are seeking for a new chair and the department is now unorganized. Can some one give me some information?

Thanks a lot.

it's three years, research oriented, and kinda pricey. You do get a degree from the big "H" though if that floats your boat. Don't know if they still do it, but you used to have to bend wire during the interview.

You have to fight for chairs with the dental students 👎

Did you get an interview? Do you know approx how many interviews they give out? I keep hearing the "chair thing" but never really hear anything else about the program. Do you know anything about the interview process? I can't seem to find anything out...ugh

When you interview, they show you this brand new building the dental school put up solely for dental research. And then they show you the clinic in the old building where the residents share chairs with dental students (although they will tell you it's not a problem to get a chair). Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. "Let's put up a huge new building for lab benches but not put any clinical chairs in it since we obviously have plenty to go around." 🙄

Their 2 day interview was a very inefficient use of time. 6 interviews randomly spread out over 2 days, with the interviews including fun activities like wire bending and the current events quiz. I had asked if I could have all the interviews on 1 day, and got no answer. When I got there, it turns out she had accomodated my request but just didn't tell me, so the second day was a waste for me anyways. Make sure you talk to all of the residents. They kept on repeating that over and over and over again, so it must be realllly important. Actually, that's a good idea for any program you visit - be sure to talk to all the residents instead of wasting time gossiping with the other candidates.

I take it you aren't a resident there... Why do they have you do wire bending? What type of current events quiz? How crazy!?! Do you know if they have any clinical instruction or is it just all research?

No, I'm not a resident there so I don't know what their daily grind is like. However, they did insist at the interview that they are a clinical program and get as much clinical experience as other programs. I remember the residents making a point to say this to try and dispel the "Harvard is all research" notion. The current events quiz was a list of names from all over history and the present and you had to go through, circle the names you knew, and tell the interviewer what you knew about each one you circled. I don't know why they made you bend wire. Like everything else in dentistry, I am 1000 times better at bending wire now that I've done it so much than I was at the interview. I don't know if they make you do these things anymore at the interviews.

West Virginia makes you bend wire as well

Gryffin you still rock!!
I feel really nostalgic reading your posts...

She was probably just thinking about orthodontics at the time👍.
