Hey! Anyone take a gap year and successfully gain admission? I am planning on taking a gap year, but am confused on what exactly looks best for a gap year for eventual admission. TY for the help! Thinking about volunteering and getting a job, anyone have any other ideas?

Hi! Got accepted on Monday and I’m currently doing my gap year working as a manager of a dental practice!

Could I ask when your interview date was?

I interviewed with HSDM on 1/22 and still haven't heard back. Is anyone else in the same boat?

I got an email saying they've stopped interviewing. Did anyone else get the same email?

Received a call on Monday! Missed it, so set up an interview today for 12/17. 12/11 was available, but wanted some time on the supplement and to get to know the school (don't think pre/post 12/15 would make a difference in this case). 3.79 / 22 dat, 2 gap years! Good luck all. Never thought this would be happening.
Do you mind sharing if you were accepted with your stats? I read their average age of acceptance is 22 so was wondering the chances for someone with gap years

A actually canceled my harvard interview (never thought I would ever do that) due to unique circumstances, but I would say it was my personal statement and interest in dentistry/teaching that got me the interview, not my scores. I think a 22 will get you looked at, but it definitely won't wow them.

Well congratulations on having the choice to cancel! Also, I meant the average age of the students is a 22, so most are straight out of undergrad. I’ve taken a few gap years so I am much older and wasn’t sure if that would hurt my chances.

those who apply/matriculate to HSDM tend to be high achieving students so gap years are not typically necessary for those Individuals. That’s why the entering age is relatively young.

Your age as a number should have zero impact on your application. What is most important is your GPA, DAT, and research experience (followed by PS, LOR, ECs). If you excel in each of those areas your age can be a potential benefit if you can use your unique life experiences or non-trad background (if applicable) as a way to illustrate how you can bring diversity to your class.

but to answer your question, your age alone will not hurt or help your chances.
