Harvard Vs. UCONN?

Both schools have a P/F and PBL curriculum, both schools are unranked, and both schools are really good for specializing. Total educational cost for Harvard is around 300,000; for UCONN it's around 180,000. Seems like UCONN is a less prestigious but much more affordable version of Harvard. Thoughts?

Especially Hard?!? No offense but its stupid. UConn has great match rates and anyone who would pay 180k extra to go to a school on the basis of its name, and name alone, is stupid. No other way to justify it.

No I understood you. I’m saying it’s not especially hard to justify Harvard, rather it is stupid to justify Harvard. People just don’t realize how much 180k is obviously.

Columbia Dental Grad + Harvard medical grad. fancy degrees but if you saw how much interest I accrue on my loans monthly you'd have diarrhea for a month at minimum. Go to the cheapest school. Don't second guess "well gee I what if I went to Columbia or Penn or one of those fancy Ivy leagues to help me specialize??" because there are smart kids at ivy/non-ivy and just as many if not more tools at ivy league schools.

Not worth IMO. Cheapest dental school = less loans = less interest = less diarrhea = more money to spend on non-underwear related expenses

To be fair at my school getting 1 B in preclinicals where even people not trying that hard makes A's probably puts you outside of the top 25.

Well at MY school, which is clearly better than yours, everyone was a gunner until they got one bad grade and they quit. But all that means is they were failures and clearly not cut out to be specialists.

I'm familiar with dental school, and I'm familiar with YOUR dental school. It's a good school no doubt, but it's nothing special other than the price. I've seen the classrooms. Kudos on the clinic though.

Success is not measured by OMFS match rates.

I'm doing fine at my state school, but I know some people interested in OMFS, got 1 B, and gave up completely.

There are many factors that come into play when deciding which school to go to. Cost is one, potential residency is another, and there are a whole bunch else. Everyone prioritizes them somewhat differently, believe it or not.
I was talking only about getting into residency, and for that, no school will serve you as well as Harvard does. Plain and simple. You can make a case for going to Harvard over any other school on that basis, but indeed it is harder to make that argument when comparing Harvard with UCONN because of all the similarities.
Clearly, the issue of money favors UCONN (by 120k), but that's not what I was talking about.

If the question is one school is next door to your family and you have a financial discrepancy then you have to weigh out the difference in cost. Location determines what you do in your free time, the kind of people that will surround you, and potentially the relationships you will build in the long term. For a lot of people who fully understand the financial consequences of selecting a more expensive school, this is a factor they consider invaluable. It’s a big reason why I picked Columbia over my state school. I understand the pragmatic mentality of SDN, but calling someone stupid for going to Harvard is insanely ironic.

Its very ironic is my point. Someone who had the brains to get into Harvard is willing to pay 120k extra to go to Harvard vs Uconn is, ironically not too smart. Oh and thats not factoring in the insane COL in Boston.

I mean...... it is, since the sheet financial aid gives you considers all costs (typically inflated so you can take out max loans).

Harvard is better than Uconn, but it’s more expensive. It just down to what you value. Do you want a leg up for getting into residency, or do you want to save money? In the case of OP, the leg up is minimal while the cost difference is significant.

It’d be a totally different conversation if it was any other state school that wasn’t p/f, ranked, and had mediocre match rates.
