harvard

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Average gpa there is 3.7. It is the most competitive dental school in America. Not sure about dat but it must be >20.

Harvard is a private school... meaning Students are considered equal whether in or out of state. PM me if you have any more questions. I would be glad to help.

i work with a handful of current hsdm students ( i work at forsyth institute in case someone knows me 🙂 and having spoken with them, you need 99% percentile dats and 3.65+ gpa. you need to shadow and you need something else that lets you stand out. in my experience i think being a minority helps. many people don't apply/go to harvard because it is *damn* expensive.

Heh heh... The tuition at Hah-vahd couldn't possibly be any worse than NYU... My sister owes a quarter of a million dollars in loans when she graduated from NYUCD in 2000. 😛 And LOTS of people apply (and go to!) NYU despite the cost.

Money methinks is probably not that big a consideration though admittedly it would be a major factor..

Regarding the high costs of private dental schools (harvard, NYU etc): From what I understand, military scholarships cover ALL tuition for dental/med school wherever you go. Where you choose to attend isnt even a factor in the scholarship boards.

Anyone out there know more on this subject? I could be wrong.

If you go Armed Forces HPSP, they will indeed pay your tuition in full and give you a $650 monthly stipend while in school.

The catch? A 5-year active duty commitment.

That's why even at expensive schools like NYUCD you don't see too many takers..

last i heard (which was about 3 months ago, when i contacted an HPSP student), the monthly stipend is actually closer to $1,100.

also, you only owe 1 year of service per year of scholarship, with a minimum 3 year commitement -- so i dont know how you would owe them 5 years unless you are including the GPR/AEGD "requirement".

i say "requirement" because you are required to apply for it, but there are ways to get out of doing one. the rules on that are not black and white though. best way to know what's up is to talk to someone who went thru the HPSP... not a current HPSP student, and not a recruiter.
