Not sure if you guys read my previous post but here it is again:

Well Im a canadian, with a 3.4 GPA, 3.5 sGPA and last 2 years my gpa was 3.7, first year was 2.8. Good improvement.

DAT score: 26AA, 25 PAT, and 25 TS (SOOO HAPPY, BEST DAY OF MY LIFE)

I have amazing ECs, everything from student council, to volunteering in lab, to research, tutoring, president of clubs, senator, and on and on. I have about 2500 hours of volunteering, and ontop of that about 300 hours of paid research. I currently have 1 publication in cancer research, and a potential one on the way. I also have amazing reference letters from my profs and dentist (whom i shadow). Im applying today hopefully ill get it done by tonight. (i know its a bit late)...
I go to U of western ontario.

This might seem crazy, but what are my chances to top tier schools, and specifically HARVARD!

WELLL I GOT A CALL FROM HARVARD AND SHE ASKED ME ABOUT MY APPLICATION (CUZ I FORGOT SOMETHING FOR THEIR APP) AND SHE SAID TO EXPECT A CALL FROM HARVARD VERY SHORTLY!!!!!!!!

I also got an interview from BU, Mercy, Case, and NYU, still waiting on UMB and Upenn but im sure ill get them

My friends, if you have a 2.8 it is POSSIBLE! you just got a give it your all and DOOO research cuz youll get knowledge to get high marks, reference letters, and a publication, and 3.70 last 2 years all this shows that your smart and can handle dental school! and tbh research is in integral part of all schools and is becoming the forefront.

WOOOOOW!!!!! just seeing the title of this thread made me shiver ahahah. congrats on the interviews!!!!!! hopefully harvard calls u for an interview lets us know!!!

I'm with you. I'm glad you heard good new OP; I clicked on this thread assuming there was a question/statement regarding the school, or anything helpful really, but alas I found nothing.

Nevertheless, I think this is the nature of having a forum like SDN. If I didn't need this website for its bountiful help regarding the application process, I would stay away.
 
I dont know much about dental school "schedules" i only reported what i got from my email and confirmed by phone. I personally called them and asked them if i can send them an update on my transcript (i got 2 A+s this summer so i thought itd be worth adding), and she did and they probably looked at my app a second time and my reference letters were awesome and the evalutators (profs and docs who wrote my letter) personally called the admission office and were directed to the director/dean and personally talked to him/her, it definitly helped my app stand out.

And for circa, calm ur self i have no intentions in showing off, everyone posts their success on SDN get over it, im not like that....

And for Jonnyandy12, im glad u find hope, there is always a light at the end but u HAVE TO put in the effort and work ur ***** off!!

i second canadiandr, tbh dental schools dont disclose half of their processes....if anything they say they hold back to get more people applying (= $),
 
So are you saying schools that haven't given out interviews yet to everyone else (BU, UOP) gave out interviews ahead of time just for you?
 
Congratulations on the great job. Which batch were you in and when did you get invites for UoP and BU. I have significantly more research/ publications and a higher GPA but unfortunately haven't heard anything so far from the schools you mentioned, although your DAT is higher than mine. I dont know about my LORs since I had waived them, but I am curious as to how you know that you have amazing LORs and what its content were (I have seen other sdners say the same thing too). Also your evaluators called the admissions/ dean personally..amazing wow. I dont know if any evaluators in the U.S. would do that unless I am not aware that we can do that....maybe I can ask mine to call the school as well 🙂...but I dont know how it would be taken if all the applicants evaluators started calling the office/ dean. Its surprising but you can never tell about schools I guess and what they are looking for. Did you have anything exceptional in your app and what do you mean when you say senator. Your post makes me hopeful too. Congrats again, surely you will get in where ever you want and gluck for your interviews.

I smell a troll. This is the first I've heard of Harvard, UoP, and BU all starting to give interview invites at once.

OP-What was the name of the woman who called you from Harvard?

When anyone says "I'm waiting to hear from school X but I'm sure I will get an interview", I can't help but hope they don't.
 
I called Mercy last week because there was a problem with the letter they sent me and they said that they don't send out interview invites until early September...

BU just finished sending the last of their rejections for last cycle and finished filling the rest of the class, interviews won't start going out until sept....unless they're just plucking the 26's and 27's out of the pile first...either way GL op
 
I got an email confirming my app is complete with Harvard. Same with UoP, UMB and UPenn. No rejections thus far so I'm happy, but no interview either I am not too happy. I'm hoping the OP was given special privilege because of his exceptional DAT score or ECs. Either way the rest of us can only patiently wait while the interviews start going out to most applicants.

The OP is lying and is drbatman and probably wired and mr avicci etc etc etc...

Don't let what he said about getting interviews get you down because it is not true.

Did you apply to Columbia by the way?

Didn't apply to Columbia...not sure why but just doesn't feel like I'd fit in there culturally since I am not too brash. Maybe I made a big mistake by not applying there...oh well time relieves of all such doubts.

I hope I didn't come off as though I was down in my post! I am pretty sure I'll get in somewhere since my app isn't bad. I was just stating that if anyone is "worried" there is nothing to be worried about. Even if the OP is telling the truth, there is nothing we can do besides wait and see if we happen to get interviews! More pragmatic than anxious, I suppose.

Guys, Harvard doesn't send out invitations until fall (i would know). Because it's a small school, their admissions office is also very small and it takes them a while to go through batches of applications. So, don't start worrying until then!

I was just wondering, since Harvard dental school is more research-based, do they prefer students with a lot of research experience? I just switched from finance to pre-dental as a rising junior, so I don't have ANY research experience yet...I was going to focus my next year doing shadowing and volunteer work since I hear from some people that research isn't that important when it comes to dental school application - they prefer to see shadowing/dental experience. Is that still the case for Harvard?

I don't think OP is necessarily BS'ing us. They claimed that Harvard has called them about some application errors, and nothing about actual interviews. So I think we could give this thread a chance.

Ya, I did know this originally, but had forgotten that he never claimed an interview invitation from Harvard. Thanks for the correction 😀

Sounds like BS to me...no one else has confirmed interviews from BU, Mercy, or UoP. Something fishy going on...

TOTAL BULLSH*T. i called UOP just this past wednesday (8/15) and she said they haven't even begun to review applications yet.
