After visiting so many schools I wonder if HARVEY is actually used in each and every med school. I believe he/she was invented in Univ. of Miami, but I forgot to ask if Miami med students actually get to practice on da man.

So, please let me know (Miami folks), and others if preparing for real life scenarios on Harvey is a common thing.

thanks

No, its not that a common of an occurance probably due to his cost (much $$$) I believe. As an MS-I we never use/see/smell/hear HARVEY but during the cardio/pulmonary section next year I hear we will be getting to know HARVEY plenty well. It looks pretty kewl...can't wait! From what I hear the profs will program him with various pathologies and students can listen from their seats, etc. I think that only 6 or so other medical schools have him.

Its funny. All the schools I have visited have said that Harvey is very expensive and few schools have him, yet I have seen him numerous time!

I guess Harvey is a popular guy! Good luck!

I think it was Emory where they had a mannequin that simulated many different abnormal heart sounds. University of Cincinnati also had an awful lot of prosthetic devices to practice on in their clinical skills lab.
